Total newbie here. I just want to hear the tugs on the Intercoastal Waterway between Pt Arthur and Galveston. I'll be within a 100 yards of them. I got a Uniden Atlantis 155. Is this gonna work or do I need to upgrade?

I don’t own this radio, but I would press the “scan” button so the radio quickly scans thru all marine channels.
Hopefully you’ll hear the tugs on one or more of those channels.

Channel 13 or 67 for navigational information. Like two vessels passing or overtaking each other.

Channel 13 is used in most of the USA, but Channel 67 is used in some of river system. You have to try each or look into the NAVRULES to see which is used in the area.

For tugs I would look up the USA VHF Marine channels and listen/scan all used for commercial.
