Has anyone successfully monitored Metcom? I'm monitoring the Anoka County subsystem and have not been able to monitor it. Any suggestions??

sporadic metcomm Reception

Metcomm is the common talkgroup for all PSAP’s in Minnesota. It is similar to the old Point to Point 155.370 VHF. I have metcomm in my 396XT and live in the East Metro. The way Armer is designed, I only receive metcomm if a portable radio has it selected. Only PSAP managers and tech’s can have it in a portable radio. Ths accounts for the sporadic transmissions I received.

Generally, I can find MetCom on City Center, Mpls, Ramsey and Henn East, but City Center is the most reliable and i think it is its home talkgroup as that i what i would imagine the MW links between PSAPs are running on. Although the MetCom radio standard doesn't allow for mobile and portable users, i can verify that it does exist on a small select handful of Mobiles and portables, generally supervisors and some special task force users.

A little more about metcom... Traffic is generally very sparse as it is generally regarded as a talkgroup to be used only when there is a significant life or property threat and a phone call from Dispatch center to another Dispatch center would be detrimental. It also is used in similarily significant events, when a phone call would be practical, but multiple agencies, with unique dispatch centers all need to be notified simultaneously. Most often it is State Patrol notifying agencies or an event, Like if there was a Large car accident in Mounds View that MSP took the call for, they would need to notify Allina EMS, Ramsey Co Communications and Anoka Co Communications (Since SBM Fire is dispatched by Anoka Co). It also is useful for pursuits so that if a pursuit is intiated (for example) by MSP in Minnetonka, and they are moving EB on 394, St. Louis Park, Golden Valley (who will be dispatched by Edina as of 1 Jan), Hennepin County, Minneapolis and Ramsey counties cann all be made aware of the pursuit moving towards their jurisdiction...

It is a handy tool, but it isnt exceptionally busy...

Met-com

Yes, I hear it on the Dakota County Sub-system. Like already posted, it isn't very busy, but when it does get used it is probably worth hearing.

deskjockeyone has it right, Metcom is not allowed on subscriber radios, so that talkgroup audio does not come up on RF sites. There is more traffic there than you guys hear, like several other talkgroups that are only allowed on consoles. As long as a talkgroup only has consoles affiliated on a certain talkgroup it will not come up on any RF sites. The audio rides on the network.
