I hear MHP on the troop J dispatch frequency some, and I can hear the troopers on car to car some, but I also hear them on the Jones County TRS and the Lamar County TRS a lot..
I am not sure where you are listening from, but I do hear them in Petal on the dispatch
frequencies. As I travel I also hear the other troops talking. I am hearing them on a BC 246T with a RS 800 mhz antenna. PM me with the frequencies that you are listening on,if you
want and I will check them against the ones that I hear them on.

I have been listening for a few hours today ( 2-25) and the MHP dispatch channel in
Hattiesburg, 42.160, has been fairly active with routine traffic. I even dusted off the old Bearcat 800 XLT and hooked it up to see if it picked up any better than the 246T on the lo bands.
I really don't know why you can't pick them up. When I lived in North Jones county I could always hear the Meridian and Hattiesburg dispatch and sometimes even the cars.
A few weeks ago I took the 246 to Jackson and heard MHP all the way up there
They are definetly still on the air.
I did hear the Jones county MHP units on the Jones County TRS quite a bit today too.
I have never heard MHP on the Forrest County TRS, but they do have a TG on the Lamar
County TRS.

I am hearing MHP bettter now but mostley can only hear one side of the convo. I did however hear the MHP Helicopter pilot and ground crew on Tuesday (2/28/06) while they were assisting the Jones County Sheriff Dept. in looking for a missing nursing home patient in Ellisville, Ms. of course it was flying directly over my head as I was shooting video at the time.
PS
If anyone on here works are knows somone who works for MHP, I want to asy thinks for helping locate the missing Gentleman, also thinks to Ellisville Police Department, the Mississippi Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks, the Mississippi Department of Corrections,
As a citizen of Jones County Think you for all the hard work.

My wife and I just recently traveled through Mississippi , I had my BC396T with me and heard some radio traffic on it in the Tupelo area and in Desoto county but I didn‘t hear all that much from the Alabama state line to about Tupelo and I don‘t recall hearing any MHP frequencies as listed here in the RR database. I had programmed several frequencies, etc. from my local location to our destination which was Jonesboro AR and was very pleased with the performance of this radio.

But, is the MHP still using those frequencies as listed here? I was just surprised that I didn’t hear any traffic.

Yes the lo band frequencies are still in use, however you have to be very close to hear the
car side of the conversation. You can typically hear the dispatch side for a very great
distance, but it is very possible to hear nothing for a very long time unless you are
in an area close to a larger town. In central MS the troopers talk to the local agencies on their respective frequencies, even running their traffic stops through them sometimes.
But MHP is still out there on their lo band system, and some traffic on the hi band (extenders) system

Thanks hft,

I had all the frequencies from the RR database that I thought I’d need and I understand about the low-band traffic but I was still amazed that I didn’t hear any MHP traffic unless it was on one of the local agencies frequencies as you mentioned. But then again come to think of it I don’t even recall seeing a marked MHP car anywhere. What kind of patrol vehicles are used most by them?

I did pick up some transmissions in Desoto Co./Olive Branch, Marshall Co., Union Co., Lee Co./Tupelo areas, though they were Sheriff’s and local PD’s, I don’t think I had any hits (at least not any I remember) in Itawamba Co. though.

Ford Crown Vic Interceptors, and a few Chevy Imps. MHP also has a very few Explorers, and Tahoes. Grey with a blue red stripe, golden state of MS with the following printed... Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol... And the usual State Trooper seals... Most have Federal Signal Jet Lightbars (The newest LED version) and a few run Whelen LED Edge bars. DOT runs Vics and Imps and Explorers also. The low band is very active, especially in Troop M, J, and C. It will be used untill the new 700 happens in the next couple of years. For good MHP pics, check out the Yahoo Newsgroup,... We have several good shots of MS Law Enforcement.

Thanks milf,

I'll be sure to keep an eye out for those vehicles next time we're driving through.

With the Upcomming MWIN being built and implemented over the next few years, MHP will be migrating to the system thus will be monitorable with an 700 MHz Trunking, digital capable scanner.

I was glad to see Motorola getting the contract. I am really looking
forward to the day when MWIN gets on line and I could monitor
to some of the traffic here in Louisiana. I live about 80 miles from the
Stateline.
