Anyone who has monitored Opelika Fire for any period of time knows that they use a unique naming system for identifying their various fire apparatus. Opelika operates from four (4) stations and is a Class 2 ISO department. For years, they have used a three-digit numbering system to identify their apparatus, e.g., 316 is the Engine at Station 1; 319 is the Engine at Station 2, etc.
Beginning Monday, January 13, 2020, Opelika Fire will convert to a more standard process in which the apparatus will be identifed by the fire station to which it's assigned, e.g., Engine 1, Engine 2, Ladder 4, etc.

That seems to make a lot more sense. It's easier to understand. That's the way they do it across the river in the thriving metropolis of Columbus.

I agree completely. That's the way they do it in most places. I could never correlate their numbering system until I became friends with an Opelika Firefighter and he shared their numbering system.
