apparantly 911 is not important to the politicians.
Oh! You said the "P" word!

You are not alone. I am having the same problems, except out here in "Elvis country" we do not even have cellular cost recovery, so I'm still running in Phase 0.5. The voters defeated it in referendum twice. The politicians vowed to 'do something' and then sat down and went H.U.A. when they found out that implementation was more than signing a few papers and having smiling photo ops. It going to cost their lobby and constituents money. 9-1-1 and communications systems are not important to anyone until they are on the receiving end and it's deficient. Then it's only an emergency to them, the poor b____rds. Then, everyone else will say pr@yers and light candles, but won't part with their money to improve technology - but will for window dressing initiatives, like "investing in park land" (read: buy property cheap, warehouse it for a decade or two and sell it at a premium for development). Go figure. (I have the same opinion on putting AEDs in police cars and in public facilities. The way I look at it, I'm going to be the guy who needs it and the ambulance will take 38 minutes to get to me.)

Good luck in making things happen. Most of the time it's glacial speed until something happens (hopefully elsewhere, and not by me! :D ) and then it's a crisis to get things up to speed.

Apparently this project is getting closer. It is rumored to be a 500 trunk system. I was in a meeting recently and mentioned that its probably "a ways off". I was then told "not at all. Looking at construction to begin in 2008". My town is thinking about jumping on board, giving up its long time VHF system. I don't know specifics as I get the impression county is trying to keep this hush hush.

FYI: I do not know if this system is active yet but down here in ocean county just south of the monmouth county boarder(near the center of lakewood) I got a hit on my Opto Scout 40 on 511.1125(I had left it on over night connected to an external mag mount ant)

Anyone been monitoring these freqs lately?

I've been listening for the past week to both the new (future) frequencies for Monmouth and Ocean County, nothing not even an ID. I'l try it again in a week or two.

Monmouth County 500 Mhz trunk plan

Anyone have any new info on the 500 mhz plan? The Freeholders introduced a flat budget for 2008, and the state's budget problems for grants are obvious so, I don't know what the pace of implementation will be. Still looking for ANY specifics, Motorola, EDACS, analog (nah) P25 (probably) etc. Still holding off on new scanners..........Kevin, anyone??

Based on the last meeting I went to, the County is moving ahead with their new UHF Digital Trunked system. They recently hired a consultant to start the process.

Thanks for the freq info Ken.

If it's the system DJ88 posted above, it's listed under Public Safety Pool Conventional. You heard the words Trunked System mentioned? Maybe they are re-applying for those frequencies for a trunked system.

You're wondering? It seems pretty clear to me the pork barrel is empty and the Board of Chosen Freeloaders are going to have to find another trough or tighten their belts like the rest of us.

Yes, I 'm trying to reconcile the information in this post vs. the budgetary constraints the County appears to be under. Perhaps the funds have already been allocated. Besides they could be operating under the auspices of "Homeland Security/Public Safety/Enviromental Protection/It's for the Children" umbrella which is Holy & Sacrosanct to most politicians. If you question anything under these terms you are either evil or unpatriotic to them.

I was told the other day by someone at the jail that they are in the process of replacing all their radios HT1000's & HT1250's because they are not compatible with the new future radio system, but he didn't know any further.

HT1000 not compatible? I could only think of a trunked system that they don't handle. I know of depts that are APCO 250 & still have the HT1000's.

You need to check that again, my friend! You are correct about the trunking part, but HT1000's can't handle narrowband analog, and especially not APCO-25!

You would need an IMBE-equipped ASTRO Saber or any of the XTS's to do that... ;)

HT1000s CAN handle the 12.5 NB splits if they are the later "D" model with the newer firmware. (Model # ends in a "D"). I've set some up in the past.
When in the RSS channel screen, hit F2 channel options. Then change the IF bandwidth.
