Per lredell Firewire, Mooresville FD and Southern Iredell County FDs moved off UASI today and are now dispatched on the Iredell Fire & Mooresville Fire VIPER TGs. UASI TGs in these areas will only be used as a backup. It looks like Mooresville PD and Statesville will be following suit as well.

Too bad. It usually gave PD the jump on calls to monitor Fire & EMS traffic due to the delay from ECOM sending them down after dispatch. PD will have to wait until the switchover before being able to scan Fire & EMS again.

PD has county fire on their consoles now so they can still monitor. There have been patches in place for years

The tones are getting ready to be removed on the UASI side. They have had county fire county EMS and county sheriff on Viper on their consoles since they moved to UASI. Instead of listening to the Mooresville fire dispatch, all they have to do is listen to the county fire dispatch channel now, which has been on their consoles

Statesville Fire as switched as well.

Heard them the other night while listening to Viper Iredell.

Mooresville Fire has added a Conference Talkgroup.

Sorry they are following the Charlotte Fire plan of having it encrypted.

Mooresville Fire Conference is encrypted just like Charlotte Fire Conference. Statesville Fire and Mooresville PD still use their respective systems with a patch to VIPER. Statesville PD is still on their respective system with no patch to VIPER.

It sounds like Iredell County is moving along with all public safety moving to VIPER. I saw a post on Cool Springs FD's Facebook page that Iredell will eventually have its own VIPER simulcast cell. A new site (which will be one of three) is going to be at Cool Springs Fire Station 2.

David,

Mooresville Fire only has two encrypted talkgroups. Conference and Training. Everyday operations are staying in the clear with no plans on encryption.

Mooresville Fire has switched to Viper full-time.

Mooresville PD is staying on UASI until the end of the year. Viper Patch in place.

Statesville Fire is staying on the SVL Trunked System until the end of the year. Dispatch Patch on Viper is in place. No Ops Channels patched.

Statesville PD is staying on the SVL Trunked System. No patch to Viper what so ever.

Iredell County is building a simulcast system on Viper. New sites are being built now. Cool Springs, Mooresville, and Olin sites are being built. This will be like the Gaston and Davidson County Simulcasts on Viper.

Can anyone explain why Mooresville/Iredell moved away from UASI?
1. Money - Volunteer Fire Departments in Mooresville couldn't afford to pay the subscriber fee per radio. At least one department stopped paying the fee over a year ago and Mooresville Fire was picking up the tab.

2. Interoperability - The firm hired by the county commissioners to look into the disaster that is ECOM, recommended the county move to a single radio system. This will consolidate 4 radio systems into one.

Thus far, I have enjoyed the Viper switch. I understand not everyone is a fan but from a listening stand point, it's been great.

For those that are not a fan, what are their arguments?
The only complaint I've heard is the north end doesn't like to hear the south end radio traffic and vice versa. They both complain each talks to much haha.

I was messing around last night.

I caught Iredell Ems still being heard across UASI.

"Iredell County is building a simulcast system on Viper. New sites are being built now. Cool Springs, Mooresville, and Olin sites are being built."

So, we have Fox Mountain, Barium Springs, and the current one in Mooresville. Does that mean they're building a second Mooresville site? I also couldn't remember if it was supposed to be six or seven total sites on the simulcast. Dan, I'm guessing you may know?
