Roxbury Over to Morris County

Last week on Rox Fire/EMS nightly test I heard something about radio training that night I did not think the change was going to be that fast. I knew some of their dispatchers were working at Morris County com center to I guess get a feel of it there, but I think on Tuesday the plug was pulled and Roxbury is now on MIRS I think on talkgroup 33872.

Just want to chime in... My log indicates 34480 as Roxbury on FD3 9/15, And 33872 as Roxbury on PD3 9/14. Now if only Denville PD would join the TRS I would be able to hear them. But for now, they're still lost in all the background noise down there in the 40's (

Old freqs will be used most likely for firegound and such. rumor of them incorporating those freqs into the current TRS but thats not confirmed. one of the nice things is they have NORMAL tones again! lol..Roxbury's tones were ridiculous

What? You didn't like the Pinnacle/Warner design? One minute and forty fiver seconds of tones before the voice announcement went out? I'd hate to be haivng a heart attack waiting for EMS to get paged out!

That WAS a joke. No need with today's Minitor V pagers. Can you say All Call?

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry9650/5.0.0.699 Profile/MIDP-2.1 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/104)

When the dispatcher or cop on the desk didn't have there head up their rear it wasn't bad with the tones. At one point in time when they still used the building sirens if there was a call the first tone was the companies building siren tone for either fire or first aid then the company pager tone then the officers tone then the chiefs tone. But once they got rid of the sirens the narrowed it down to just three tones per call. Then for some reason a couple of months ago they got really stupid with the tones. It wasn't that there were a lot of different tones but the cop or disp was hitting them twice first the hit all the individual tone buttons and then the combo button that was pre set with the link of tones together which would do another round of tones. So it really was the desks fault for all the tones. We still have 8 tones but the county knows how to use them and 8 is better than when there used to be 14 different tones

Yes, lack of training and poor design of the desk leads endless paging tones going out.

In the past I measured 1 minute 45 seconds worth of tones and warbles before the message was put out. If I were a resident having a heart attack I would not be happy with those delays!

The county is trying to correctly manage the paging channel to get the message out as soon as possible. COuple that with the text messaging feature and it is a very nice system. The first responders signed up for the text messaging typically get the text just before the tones go out (since it is automated out of the CAD system).

Newbie Question

I have an old scanner - Realistic 20 Channel Pro 2020.
When I entered Roxbury new Fire/Police frequencies, 162.2 and 192.8, the scanner would not accept the 192.8 frequency - just wouldn't allow me to enter it.

Any reason why? The working freqs on the scanner go up into the 355.00 range.

Appreciate any suggestions. Is there another freq to pick up Roxbury PD dispatches?

Thanks.

Roxbury moved to the Morris County trunked radio system. You need to have a digital-capable trunk-tracking scanner to listen to PD, FD, & EMS.

You were trying to enter the old conventional frequency's PL code as a frequency...

Is dispatched on the county wide disp on 476.28750 pl71.9 and call in service and talk to the county on MIRS MUN FD 3. Fire ops are now done on there old disp ch 478.6000 pl162.2 which is used when on scene and is repeated

Scanner Brand/Type?

"You need to have a digital-capable trunk-tracking scanner to listen to PD, FD, & EMS"

Can you recommend an inexpensive digital-capable scanner that would work?

Thanks.

I'm sorry to say, but digital + inexpensive do not exist in the same sentence when it comes to the world of scanners!

You might be able to find a good-condition used Radio Shack Pro-96 on eBay (or in the buy & sell section here on the site). That will probably be the cheapest digital scanner that should work with Morris County's system...

Back in 06 or so I used to know a few of the dispatchers with Rox...did they terminate the dispatchers or allow them to transfer over to the comm center...also, does that mean the dispatchers are now employed by the county or the township? would these dispatchers have to dispatch for other agencies as well?

And last but not least...why??? Was this a county proposal or a township one...
