To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Motorola Emergency Mode for analog systems

Hi,

I'm trying to setup emergency mode on a XPR 7550 radio but unfortunately the system uses analog channels only. It appears no emergency features work with analog channels, but wanted to verify if this is correct.

Optimally, I'd just like emergency mode to activate a hot mic/vox for 15-20 seconds. If I can get extra features enabled that'll be fine too, but not necessary.

Thank you.

I may be wrong, because I haven't used it personally, but I think you can do emergency with MDC1200 on analog. I remember I can use my 7550e on an analog channel to call and/or monitor a 3500e with MDC1200.

Some more research suggests I think you're right. Going to test it now.

Was able to get it to work. Currently trying to figure out why Emergency Alarm w/ Voice to Follow feature isn't hotmic-ing properly. I think the problem is that it's waiting for an acknowledgement, which it's not going to receive based on other radio settings.

Is the emergency alarm being acknowledged?

I'm not going to post the following part of that table (as it's on the next page), as it refers to silent alarms and such...but each entry includes the words "when the Emergency Alarm is acknowledged...".

No. Other radios on the system do not have any MDC settings configured at the moment. Curious if there's a way to disable needing it to be acknowledgn

It's been yeeeeears since i've diddled with analog emergency features, but I recall vaguely that they had to be ack'd. I pulled that screenshot from a recent programming manual for a radio I didn't service in the field, but analog is antique and likely not much has changed. YMMV.

Not saying it's right, but it might need to be ack'd.

I deleted that message because I actually did enable ack in the other radio (although I would prefer if an ack wasn't always needed)

My bad on the last few... I forgot the XPR 3300 needs the programming cable disconnected to hear anything, because on my 7500 it doesn't. It *is* working properly, with the exception that every time the tones come through it is hot micing again. Perhaps my hotmic timer is too high, although I'm not seeing that setting.

According to this manual I found online, there is an Emergency Cycle mode which can be disabled - sounds like what you have IFO you.
