To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I apologize in advance if this is a duplicate forum entry however I'm new to the forum.

Can anybody assist me in how to program in the delay tone when you key up on the HT1250 Motorola CPS. Hope that's the correct terminology. (it's like a three second tone similar to the one you get when you try to key up on a RX channel only then stops to allow you to talk).

Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!

i think that you need to have some type of signaling enabled (MDC, QCII) on the specific channel that you want that key up tone to be on. then in the channel personality it can be enabled there. i don't think it is a radio wide option. anyone please correct me if i am wrong.
i have wanted to do this for some time also.

It's called the PTT sidetone.

In the personality window, MDC has to be enabled for Tx signaling.

In the MDC system window, make sure the PTT sidetone is checked.

Basically, the tone when the radio is keyed up is to make sure you don't try an speak before the radio is finished sending the PTT ID.

And if you're not sending an MDC ID, why on earth would you want the tone (which is pretty annoying)?

I will second that, and it is DAMMED annoying.

Post Traumatic Stress caused by having to hear the MDC tone squawk.

Because some people can NOT be trained to wait 1 second to allow the repeater to open. Around here, dispatch has to ask the users to repeat that they just said at least 50% of the time, due to the first part of their transmission being cut off. This has been going on for at least 10 years, so that's why I say some people can NOT be trained. The only to force these people to wait is to have a PTT side tone.

Even funnier, the officers around here will key up their speaker mic on their left shoulder, and talk into their right shoulder. Insain, but true....

That's when you create the equivilant of a "swear jar" where whenever dispatch asks you to repeat something the offender must put a buck into a jar (the money can go to a local charity or simply buy the doughnuts). It could also be made to be one of the stats kept on a user's job performance and too many dispatch repeats could affect their future pay, performance, or even who gets let go during layoffs. Give the folks some skin in the game and their inability to be trained may change into their ability to be trained.

I wish there was a like button for the comment about not being able to train people to wait when keying up amen to that!!

The other reason I push pre mdc we can see who has an open mic when they key up. We have run into cases where the radio was keyed and the radio had no time out timer. The radio was keyed for over 30 mins. We could have contacted the correct agency long before 30 mins
