I have an XTS5000 that is preprogrammed with some of the State of SD programming in it. I have the software, the cable, and the program to read it all, but I am at a loss of how to program in other SRC/INT/other talk groups/ information. can anyone lead me to a place to learn how to pull the information off of RR here, and get it put into the radio? i am reading radio data, but when I try to match it with anything on here, nothing seems to match.
I have one of the EFJ 5100 and an EFJ 5300 here as well, and would just like to pull the different stuff off them all and have them match, that is if I can get the 5300 to be read from the software, 5100 and 5000 seem to be just fine.
I am located in SF
Where did you get this radio?
Is this radio actively affiliating to the trunking system? (Do you see a tower symbol in the left upper corner?)
There is a way to use that radio as a scanner, but from your post, it sounds like you are using an affiliating radio. Programming an affiliating scanner is not only against local and federal law, if you are on a talk group that you inadvertently drag to a busy tower site and “lock out” the TG you can be putting lives in danger. No joke, this happens, and then everyone on the talk group can’t talk.
Lastly the state is very actively watching site and user traffic. Your radio will be locked out, or the radio may be sent a command and turned into a brick. Then, phone call will be made to the agency that last owned that radio… and people will be looking for it… maybe entered into NCIC as stolen..(again I don’t know where you got this radio)..
Every time you turn that radio on, turn the channel to a digital talk group, change tower site, that radio is actively affiliating and transmitting with the system. And allllll of that is tracked.
Lastly, that radio probably won’t even be able work when the system gets upgraded this fall.
Please, please go buy a scanner. If you have further questions send me a PM and I can send you in the right direction.
