• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I repeat, the pager is not a scanner and it scans slow. I if you have 16 frequencies in a scan list it will be slow.
I found this out after I tried to put in some stuff for a local PD that uses both analog and DMR together. I finally decided to use "something else" when possible for scanning those.

Yeah I am beginning to think that way....I thought maybe I could populate empty spaces with more freqs.......no big deal cause theres enough on RISCON to listen to anyway. I have 2 DMR ham radio HT's I use for both Ham and monitoring everything else. But it is great to have a handheld unit like the G5 to be able to listen to RISCON, especially when I am on the road around town.

I think you have to pull off RR to enter into the G5. You have to keep analog and P25 conventional separate.
OK so you cant MANUALLY enter the data like ctcss/dcs and color codes/time slots. I know Pawtucket PD is on P25 now and Johnston Fire too. Stand alone like Cranston is. I guess in the least I could program those towns that are P25 conventional.

See post #3. You don’t get to them, the pager picks one site and stays there until signal deteriorates and then it tries to find a signal from another site.
OH OK.......I spend pretty much all of my time here in town so I really wouldnt need that feature. I wouldnt be venturing outta range of what I have programmed now.

Bob, you need to make another change to your E7 knob positions, my fault, I always get confused. The settings you have now monitors all TGs, programmed or not, this change only monitors the TGs you programmed.

Click on the gear icon circled next to TG Monitor

and change it to TG - Scan, save at page bottom and reprogram

If I click on the SUB GROUP button at bottom of non priority list I get this first screen.....if I click on one of the TG's to assign to sub group I get the next screen but I am lost here and dont know what to do next. Looks like there are no sub groups....look in last pic. I also noticed radio isnt showing "scanning" in the display. But it is receiving talk groups.

On a trunked system, scanning only shows until pager locks on a control channel. Then it will show rfss/site.

On conventional channels, scanning will continue to show until squelch breaks. Then show again after squelch closes.

Yes, I am starting to learn a bit more......I will take my time with this and maybe get some help on programming the last 2 empty knob positions on radio. I see where I will have to import from Radio Reference what I want. But I still am not clear how to get the data where it needs to go. I think I will import some conventional UHF PD/FD from surrounding towns. I also have the DMR option but maybe I really didnt need it cause it seems programming stand alone DMR freqs, not a system might not work.

I am thinking about buying a Unication, from what I have read I am sold. Do they make a version that will run more than 1 site? I understand these radios will only scan 1 site at a time, but can you program say maybe 2 or 3 sites where you can pick any of those to scan? I live on the border of 2 site areas and would like to be able to listen mainly to the Providence RI site, and I am only a few miles south of there. But I live in the NORTH site area and would still want to hear calls from that area as well.
You can scan up to 64 sites on a zone
