Mounting Scanner with Magnets

Hello. This seems the proper place for this question.

I usually have one of my hand held scanners with me at my desk during the day at home, the Pro 106 or 436.

They both have cases with the metal belt clip. I want to raise them up off my desk an on to the front panels/cubby holes.

My plan is to attach a magnet to both the front of a cubby hole and a second magnet to the steel belt clip. That way I just put the scanner case against the permanent mounted magnet and it sticks there.

Will a magnet interfere with the scanner at all or cause any damage? That is my real concern. Before I damaged anything or cut out radio reception I wanted to ask the experts here. Thank you.

I have never tried that, but I have considered the HT Desk Stand.

I have a fairly good size N50 neodymium magnet (one of the strongest magnets on earth) and it rarely causes any problem with electronics. It can cause LED digits on certain alarm clocks to fade if held nearby. Once I placed it near a kids toy and it caused the sound to speed up in time and pitch. In both cases removing the magnet returned everything to normal.

The only damage I have heard of from magnets are damage to television screens, magnetized wind up watches and ruined cassette tapes.

I don't foresee that you will have any problems at all with a scanner radio. It may interact just slightly with the magnet in the speaker to reduce the overall volume but even that is unlikely.

Thanks for replying. I assume it is safe. I know that magnets on speakers can sometimes cause a color TV to have off color areas at the very corners. Guess I will try this.
