Can't see Speedway Schools ever going encrypted, half of the time they aren't even on the right channel.
Maybe (hopefully) not. I would like to think that I'll be able to listen to SOMETHING in a few years that interests me.
But if the school corporation decides to use ARF money (or any other slush fund/grant handout) to purchase ALL NEW radios with an ALL NEW repeater, what is their reason to NOT go encrypted?
In the past it was mostly a monetary decision to not encrypt.
Then it was an interoperability issue, usually.
Now with ADP and other stuff built in, there's no reason except for backwards compatibility. And if that is not an issue, and the radio vendor goes "Hey Stanley SchoolDude, do you want people on scanners to be able to listen to your communications" then the answer is gonna be some version of "Nope"; that's my point.
I'm not wishing it on anyone or any system. But absent any other barrier, the reasons to remain "in the clear" aren't exactly compelling.
