There are a few "Resident Trooper" spots across the state that have take home cars and all the K9 Troops have take home Tahoes but the rest leave the car at the Post. Some share cars and some are assigned a car and no one but them drives it.

This is changing. Most will have take homes and check in and out of service from home instead of the Post.

Anything I missed guys?

Im winging it here but we have some guys that are Troops that can better answer this stuff..

Down here the MSP cruisers are usually out on patrol. If the cars in Traverse are just sitting in the lots waiting to be called, then maybe it's a good thing as this will force them onto the road.

I am almost 60 years old, down here, the Niles post, White pigeon and the former New Buffalo post has had quite a few extra patrol cars sitting in their lots for over 40 years.

Over here in Sanilac County since way before Granholm, the Post here has only been runnng two cars on each days and afternoons, and one only on midnights. Which leaves a serious balance of something like 10 squad cars sitting idle.

The really sad part of it is, most taxpayers are completely unaware of their tax dollars just sitting there. Who knows - maybe they just don't care, eh?

Each Troop has their own there and then the extras are pool cars just in case one is down for maintenance or in case one is wrecked. Otherwise they would have to wait for one to come from Lansing..

The commander of the Niles Michigan post lives around the corner from me.

The license plate on his personal vehicle used to say 5301MSP, but I noticed the other day that it now says 5101MSP. They are apparently renumbering posts too.

Randy

I met the Director of MSP Communications at a conference a while back, & her POV plate was "MSPCOM1".

I was told by an MSP Dispatcher friend of mine, albiet years ago, that the theory behind all the cars was that if the stuff hit the fan, & they had to call in every trooper, that each trooper could take a vehicle, even after factoring in the number of cars normally "down" for maintenance. Don't know if that is still the practice, but a lot of the posts do seem to have an abundance of cars just "sitting around".

Hey, DIstrict7; If I'm reading the map right (I admit my eyes aren't great!), it's showing that D7 HQ would be at the Kalkaska DETACHMENT?

Actually you are referring to Lt. Mike Brown who was the Post 53 commander but was transferred to the Paw Paw Post. Thats probably why he changed his license plate. That would be his new radio designator.

IMO.... dont know WHY you would want to do that but I see it quite often..... Officers/Troopers/Deputies using their dept. intials and their designator/badge # as a personalized plate on their personal vehicle..... just asking for someone to mess with it IMO......

Who is the new Post Commander @ Niles?

According to the local Herald Palladium (or is that Polution?) newspaper, the Bridgman post is one that will be closed.
