To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:
Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.
The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.
For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I got my MT2000 today, it was straightforward so far.
I realized I need a user manual though. So far I've got almost 2 zones populated, but would like to read more about some of the features. The layout really changed alot though! I have about 5 repeaters enabled,( 6) 2m simplex freqs, MURS, Business Band and 4 NWS stations entered.
I'm going to write a tutorial on MTSX software as well (see my other HT1000 RSS Doc)

I used the same cable I used for the HT1000 which worked perfectly. I am using several machines to program the radios (I tested each one today with mtsx) One is a Panasonic Toughbook CF-25 MK1 (100 mhz, MSDOS 7.10), the other 2 are Panasonic Toughbooks, CF-25 MK3 (166 mhz) dual-booting Debian Linux and MSDOS 7.10...

Hello, new guy here. I have 2 MT1000 portables that I cannot program. I have a Panasonic Toughbook CF27 with Windows 95 and I believe a 266Mhz processor. The DOS software I am running is version R06.07.00 and it programs MTS2000 radios just fine! What am I doing wrong? Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance--

Well, for starters the MTSX programming software isn't designed to work with MT1000 radios. You will never be able to program your MT1000s with it.

Unknown what is going wrong with the MT2000s. They require the same RIB, cable and RSS software as the MTS2K and they both program the same way.
Are you certain the MT2000s you have aren't parts radios with HT1000 control boards, for example?
Are you able to describe exactly what happens when you attempt to program th MT2000s?
What indications (screen fail messages) are you getting, if any?
Are you even able to read the MT2000 when you have it connected?

1. The controller board (H01SDD9AA4AN) is for an MT2000 as it was originally programmed on a 386 computer in DOS using R06.08.00 software. The RF board might be out of an HT1000.
2/3. The message I get on my laptop says "Warning: Communication With Radio Failed" then below that, >Protocol Entry Error< and finally below that "Retry Last Command Again"
4. No. My 386 reads and programs these radios fine but this laptop will not.

If I'm reading your messages correctly, the MT2000's have already been previously programmed using MTSX V R06.08.00.
Now you're trying to program them with MTSX V R06.07.00?
Using an older version of MTSX software than the radios were previously programmed with will not work. If those MT2000's have already been programmed with R06.08.00 then that's what you need to use for programming them forever after.

If you are using 6.7 version RSS and it was last programmed with 6.8 you should get an error saying 'codeplug to old for this application' if you have programmed other radios just fine and now getting serial bus errors with this radio I would assume an internal curcuit flex is broken or the connector on the controller is bad. How does this radio act normally? does the LED light up when the radio is keyed up? does it show any errors on the display if so equipped?

Thanks for the replies. I initially programmed these MT2000's (one UHF and one VHF) on my 386 which I still use to program some HT600's, MT1000's and other older radios. I don't want to program them with my CF27 per se, I am perplexed (or at least was) as to why I couldn't read them. If I simply need to upgrade the software in my laptop to match what is in my 386 to get compatibility, I will try that. I know about the "Codeplug Too Old For This Application" message as I get it when I attempt to read an XTS3000 or MTS2000 on my 386 (which I still use it for most of my programming of XTS3000 and MTS2000 radios) that has been touched by CPS. The radios work beautifully and nothing is broken or missing, internally or externally. I am just not able to read the radios with the RSS I have in my CF27. Thanks again for the help.

Check your comm-port settings. My 166 laptop when booted into DOS (off the floppy). would not recognize the comm-port 2. When I booted into Win98 and went to the control panel and then system, I noticed that comm-port 2 was disabled. I re-enabled it and then rebooted back into DOS and it worked fine. One thing I also noted was that the comm-port was not set for HARDWARE and that also caused a problem. Make sure that both your RIB and radio have a full charge as some RIB's don't work well with a low charge.

Similiar but different problem, My Sony Windows 98 with DOS Intel Pentium II 233 MHz works fine for programing my HT1000's but will not work with the MTSX for the MT2000/MTS2000 even in DOS prompt
Can anyone help me get the MTSX up and running

Could possibly be that the 233 is too fast. What error message are you getting when you connect? Also, you may want to try the rib-less MTSX cable. I got one and it worked great!

You say the Sony won't read the software? Do you mean that when you type in MTSX (if you have the MTSX.bat built), or c:\mrss\mtsx\mtsx (or depending on how you have it pathwayed), the program won't come up? If I recall, there was another program that had to be run in order to get the MTSX to run right. Sorry, but for the life of me, I can't remember what it was.
Well, I thaought the MTSX.BAT was correct, but my computer skills may not be there, I get no response in either windows or DOS prompt with the MTSX, although it all works fine with the HT1000 RSS, the Sony reads that just fine and the com port works and the radios get and give their codeplugs.
