I am new to digital scanning (using a scanner as opposed to a feed) and am noticing chatter on MTO frequencies (York, Burlington, etc) by Romeo units. I thought these guys only did enforcement with commercial motor vehicles (trucks) but lately I've heard a lot of them running regular passenger car markers and drivers. I've never seen an MTO vehicle doing a traffic stop with the exception of commercial trucks late at night.
Anyone know a bit about what I'm hearing?
Hi. Romeo units are the Ministry of Natural Resources IIANM (if I am not mistaken, lol). Because the GTA is a urban area, you dont normally hear many Romeo units down here but as i was driving in Missiauga today on the QEW I saw the talkgroup 3072 pop up and heard a Romeo unit calling in to send his shift.
I hear the MNR Romeo's sometimes patched with Caledon 1 Sierra on Missisauga's, Toronto's and King CIty, as well as Charlton towers.
Now as for the MTO Enforcement, they are patched at times with regular OPP talkgroups and believe me, they are busy, constantly going to calls and you see them pulling people over all the time. One of my neighbours was driving his wreck on Burlington St in Hamilton and was amazed that a MTO Enforcement unit could do all the things a regular cop could do. Next time he might actually get insurance on his truck and wear his belt.
MTO Enforcement units refer to themselves as Tango. There is no number before the Tango call sign. 6 Tango units are the OPP for Wellington County and 5 Tango units are OPP of some kind heard in the GTA.
The only other Romeo units I have heard were 6 Romeo OPP units up in Bruce Co, Wiarton and north.
