• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Not even Walmarts ? They use Murs nationwide. Some even use tones.
i would defer to @nd5y on that, i don't know if the walmart down the road is still using MURS but the RR DB suggests they are, but I can't pick them up from my house:

As of 2009, the five MURS freqs that are used in the US are allowed to be used in Canada, per their Spectrum Management Regulators.

There are several threads about Walmart where this was discussed.
The store near me (don't know about the other two in town) has been using Motorola Curves for a year or so and several other people have reported the same thing in different states.
Your local store could have been using MURS 20 years ago when somebody submitted it but not now. Don't count on the db being accurate. It doesn't magically update itself whenever something changes.

You sure about that?

As a result, the Department does not feel that the introduction of MURS devices in Canada is warranted at this time, and has decided to defer the introduction of MURS devices in Canada until a clearer indication of actual need is provided by Canadian MURS advocates and/or stakeholders.

Well, maybe I should have read it a little more closely. Oh well, it is only another second mistake I have made in my life.

I live up in the hills, and I have a large county park
near a river, very close. Just below me.
Thru the woods.
I've not heard anyone from there on MURS,
but sometimes FRS is hopping with
kids & their parents.

About 5 years ago, I heard two stations
on MURS 151.94 MHz
They were definitely on base stations.
A much different sound than mobile,
of course. Very strong too.

The one guy had a familiar voice.
A ham that I used to hear often
on the 2m repeaters.
Never heard them again on MURS, tho.

I do hear regular activity on the VHF
itinerants 151.505, 151.5125 & 151.625
A lot of flaggers.

The Canadian members might want
to include the US MURS freqs. in a radio.
You might hear some tourists from the states
who smuggled some MURS radios across
that inconvenient imaginary line.

and US members might want to include these.
Over the past few years have heard what sounds like truckers or other people in vehicles passing through town on all of these frequencies here in North Texas and I don't think they were all Canadians.

I've heard truckers many, many
times in the Portland, OR area
on the LADD Channels.
We're right here on I-5 and Canada isn't far away.
Many Canadians pass thru town.

I forgot about that ! I doubt the stores in my area would stray from Murs though.

I suppose anything is possible but my understanding is that eventually all Walmart stores will be required to use the handheld 'smartphone type' devices with PTT over wifi/cellular capabilities in place of the MURS radios (as has been discussed in other threads).

Our local store is still rocking MURS, though, too. With no timeline known, it may be years before all switch over. Or they could change plans all together.

Why? They will use whatever radios corporate HQ gives them or tells them to use.
The local store here, tends to be the last in the technology chain unless it's related to their self checkouts or POS terminals. One of the TLE associates was walking around with a moto and the antenna looked like his dog used it for a Chew toy ! The cover was gone and most of the helical coil was mangled .

I use murs a few times a week and hear traffic on it every time I use it. Same with gmrs. Since both are ment to communicate with people you already know and not talk with random strangers I never really care who else in on the radio. I do care if I can communicate with the people I need to.
