Who needs Ebay for that? Just walk into many 2-way shops and buy a TK-7160/TK-7180 or a VX-2200 and tell them you work in the 'patch in NE BC and Alberta, and you will get a brand spanking new mobile 1/2wave on a mag mount, and a cig-plug on the power able, all nicely mounted on a headrest rack... With anywhere between 128-450 channels programmed in.

Trying to figure out how this helps anyone outside of AB/BC? Could the RoC have a scheme
we don't know about?

Reason I ask, TAFL seems to show certain VHF frequencies for resources (lumber
typically) in Quebec that appear widely assigned in a regional sense. With fallen oil prices
maybe we'll see an upswing in other resource sectors...and demand for communications...
or maybe not...

While that may not specifically apply to Quebec, or Ontario, some of those listed frequencies may also be used across the country. LAD-1 and LAD-2 for example, are known to be used outside of AB/BC. I'm sure more are used/assigned as well. Some digging in TAFl is warranted, I just do not have the time to.

The big clue will be multiple resource companies and individuals licensed for them, and not paired with other frequencies.

Anyone remember the 2-ch VHF HTs that were available even through Radio Shack
at the time? The eastern Canada version had two 151.xxx frequencies and the western
version had LAD-1 and LAD-2. Interesting though nothing much to do with MURS.

154.100 is extensively assigned to fire and other services in Ontario so I doubt its use here
would be authorized.

I can think of atleast 2 public safety users in Alberta that have 158.94 paired with another frequency... Does not mean LAD-2 is not used even though it is not authorized for use on resource roads here... I can think of probably half a dozen roads using it...

STO uses VHF to talk to drivers? (news to me). And how close is "awful close", 15kHz?
I've heard them on UHF.

You know what Dave, you're right. I thought they were on VHF for some odd reason... Checked my radio's programming and they use 2 frequencies - 412.2125 (Supervisors/Inspectors) and 411.8375 (Driver Comms/Dispatch) based on what I'm hearing anyway. I like to keep them in my HT's memory as I can listen in and figure out if my bus is gonna be late.

I agree, I have never found a reference to them, other than on actual licenses.

If an individual apples for say 153.0500MHz as a mobile license, once issued you can apply for 3 'appendix's' they are 1, 6 and B1

The basic ten are License Appendix B1, "Basic ten package of VHF General use mobile only frequencies"(taken off a random virtual license from Spectrum Direct.) Up on further looking it appears that they may only be available in BC, AB, SK, MB, YT, NU and NWT.

All have area restrictions, and not all are available in all provinces/territories

And thus the problem with truckers that have no license or have a license and never read the restrictions that think the frequencies can be used anywhere they go. Even if they are using frequencies that are licensed to Alberta Sustainable Resources or even fire departments in southern Alberta. And one of the reasons on these threads, when one just wants to put in any frequency, that I usually try to say to get authorized by obtaining a license. Re MURs frequencies, yes I have heard acitivity in Alberta on them. As mentioned above and on other threads, these frequencies are licensed to users.

Here in Ontario I've always thought it was some goofs playing around on VHF while mobile. It never occurred to me that it could be out of province truckers.

Actually 158.940 is used for roads, some of them are rather large publicly well known companies, so do not assume it is just "truckers putting in what ever they want" some companies i have dealt with for work are surprised when i tell them LAD-2 is not a legal channel in Alberta anywhere. As for SRD, some of their 'Fireline' channels are basic 10 frequencies with PL as well.

Whitewater Region in Renfrew County uses 154.570 as a working channel for the fire dept.

Has anyone heard any/ much action on the murs freq? Do you think they would be used much in a large scale emergency? thanks
