Catty Shack

i'm not just saying this just so i can get my joke in. seriously very nice "cattyshack".

Yes, the cat does rule the house and often likes to meow when I talk on the ham radios.

The 18 pound male cat likes to nibble on rubber duck antennas and microphone cables which must be covered up when the station is unattended by human valets. Perhaps the feline can be trained to use a straight key for CW mode. He has walked over the notebook keyboard when I was attempting a PSK 31 contact on HF.

With a little training he can raise your DXCC total while you are at work.

Is that antenna on the far end that sorta CB beam from years ago???? Seems instead of manual rotating, it was done electronically in three lobes...

Very nice setup!

The Catty Shack has many very nice radios.
How do you find your FT-897D? I love mine and find it easy to operate while many others disagree.

Your antenna system is great!

I really like the look of the Arizona terrain, very picturesque.
Good job with the pictures showing the temperature extremes!

The cat looks very much at home with the microphone.
That's the trouble with such a beautiful cat....they know they can get away with anything!! They are just too pretty to get mad at.
In the last picture he appears to be eyeing off the power board......"Mmmmm looks like a good spot to chew with some real BITE!"

Regards, Commscanaus.

That mast contains three Grove Omni monitoring antennas. A fourth one broke when being moved from another mast so that leaves three. As for discone antennas I like the Tram over the MFJ in terms of quality control. I have had two elements fall out from the MFJ discone and a third would not go into the base as the threads were not properly cut.

His name is Toughlife The Second. He gets everything he wants when he wants. I should be so fortunate but am not. He sits in front of the PC as I type this message.

Ft 897d

I enjoy that radio not only for ham radio but for those moments when I revert to my first radio mode, an SWL back in the 60s' and 70s'. It's a great receiver at a good price and the all mode capability really adds to both hobbies. It's far better than my Icom 718 which was my first HF rig. As you know the 897 is easy to use and the ability to do 6m, 2m, and 70cm on it adds great value.

I'm freakin impressed! :p Can toughlife send emails? Our cat "scruff" tries to command the keyboard, and listens to the scanners, in fact he's my avatar!
