This is not intended as criticism in any sense- just footnote for authenticity sake =if you are going after the Vintage California/ LAPD look, loose the blue teardrop. They are not really used much in the Golden State because of the vehicle code and California code of regulations.
The California Vehicle Code requires (CVC 22252) a steady burning red light visible to the front to meet the definition of an emergency vehicle.
Additionally, no teardrops were in use during that time period- I do not think they quite existed then. A true period light would have been a flip down red light in the headliner, a plug-in light in the headliner (they had a three pin plug similar to a Shure Microphone plug or a possibly a mag mount but hardwired red light kinda the same idea as the teardrop just steady burning spot type. Seems there was a requirement that lighting be permanently installed somewhere in the California Code of Regulations (which also requires white doors on law enforcement vehicles used primarily for traffic enforcement).

In California, Blue lights occur only in addition to red lights and may only be displayed by fulltime peace officers not fire, ems, or even police reserves may operate a car with blue lights. CVC 25258 (b). This is largely ignored but it is on the books.
