• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Give Ray's Pager Sales a call. That's where I bought my G-4. Great customer service.

Uni has fixed ours free of charge under warranty. I think warranty should transfer, believe the 5yr extended does...that was included in last year's promos. You can check warranty on this page from serial no.

The micro-USB cable tip is too thick (basically this), to accommodate port's placement and rubber cover. Try another spare cable laying around with smaller head (like this). Much better fit. Less likely to break the port when programming.

For now, consider the purchase of a desktop charger. In the long term, after your USB port is repaired, this will reduce the use of the port to programming only.
Where do i buy a desktop charger that will work with it? All the ones i see are only compatible with the g1. And i got a quote $220 flat rate to get it repaired or sent another refurbished one.

East Coast Pagers have them in stock, Phil does an excellent job I buy from him.

Is their any other dealer or going directly through unication to get it repaired or replaced under $200? The dealer that the previous owner purchased it through quoted me $220 to get it done.

I'm a dealer so I'm going to chime in on the costs.
Unication charges for their flat rate repair costs. If you purchased via a dealer, they are going to want you to work with the dealer to have the ticket opened.

I charge $195 for out of warranty repairs, and after doing the math, I realize I am now losing $5 on every out of warranty transaction that I do. (CC fees are more than what I charge minus what Unication charges on this transaction). So effectively, I am already at a net loss by charging $195 for an OOW repair. Guess I'll be updating my fees this month.

If you are covered under warranty, then there is no out of pocket expense, but if you are outside your warranty, then you will have to pay at least Unication's repair fee to get your pager repaired, which is pretty much what my fee is.

If you would like to have me open a ticket, please fill out this form and I'll be more than happy to assist you on your pager's repair. www.eastcoastpagers.com/repairs

You could ask a local cellphone repair shop, they may be willing to do the repair. (Obviously, check your warranty status first.)

You can purchase magnetic charging cable.
Not to hijack the thread, but that's an interesting concept. I would guess that the adapter portion remains plugged in to the device at all times? You'd have to be certain that the adapter fits within the recessed area where the port is to fully engage the plug.

BTW, this looks like your first post since 2003. I hope I don't have to wait another 19 years for a response.

I tried taking the pager to a cell phone repair shop they aren't able to replace the USB port now I have to spend $200 to have it sent in and wait two or three weeks. Unication does this on purpose to make it that expensive to get a replacement pager or this thing even repaired is a real hassle.

I have a few guys on my department that are using these magnet chargers and have been happy with them.

They have also helped with these type of repairs. If you take off running without unplugging the unit, the magnet just releases and no damage!

Mine did that too, pretty wimpy port but luckily mine was under warranty. Sorta forced to buy the charger so it doesn't happen again. Out of all the devices I own this was the first mini USB port I ever had fail.

If it is Micro-USB it will work with the Pager.

The Unication G4 and G5 require micro-USB connectors. Whatever listing you copied and pasted says "Compatible with Micro USB" so it should work.

Not sure I understand how a 540 degree rotating cable works since 360 degrees is a complete circle. Sounds a little like marketing hype.

Do you have a link to this listing?
