The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hey,

New unicaion G4 user here, I have this device because in CT we use a statewide simulcast system, I was wondering as a listener to a certain talk group if it will map that talk group to the site nearest to me? or would I actually need to have my pager registered with a trunked system in order for it to be pinged and able to TG map.

This is the first trunking P2 receiver i own, so I am not sure how they really work

The G4 has no dynamic mapping like a subscriber unit. It is a very capable receiver and made more capable by the programing and the understanding of TRS systems by the user.

The user must manually select the Site most appropriate. Some sites in some systems do not carry all TG’s. Some systems and sites only carry traffic on a TG if a radio subscriber affiliates with that TG.

I am not familiar at all with how CT is configured. Perhaps spend time reading about that system here on RR in the CT forums, this forum, and YT. Good Luck!

And here is the problem for new users.
1. Unication Pagers are not designed to be used as a hobby receiver.
2. Unication Pagers are designed to be programmed by Radio Professionals that know the systems how they are laid out and how they work.
3. They work very good when setup and used for what they were designed to do.
4. System Site mapping Talkgroup mapping are all the things that the System Designer/Programmer sets up depending on the users needs.
Which leads the not very technical user with lots of guessing and experimenting which makes Hobby Scanners easier for non-technical users.

As has been stated, you the end user, must program the pager to do what you want it to do. This includes programming the sites you wish to receive from and, any talk groups you want to receive on that site. The Unications will only receive one site at a time, however many options are available if you travel.

The talk group you're wanting to receive must itself be on that site, and also you need to have a basic understanding of how the system in your state works. For instance, I am in Southwest IL, and I cannot receive talk groups that are in the Chicago area. ( nor would I want to).
I monitor several counties near me, (one at a time) depending on where I'm at and wanting to hear. I cannot for instance monitor Madison County, and St. Clair county at the same time. (again nor would I want to). It's so busy, I'd end up missing traffic trying to monitor too much on a single device.

I have 2 Unication pagers dedicated to P-25 trunking, a BCD 536 for listening to some P-25 and DMR conventional traffic, and an old Relm scanner for listening to VHF analog stuff when that mood suits me.

Unication's are great as long as you understand their limitations and are willing to learn both about programming and how your particular system works. There's lots of help to be had here on RR. Perhaps let us know exactly what you''re trying to hear (what area, what TG, and such) and we can help you out.

Upon a quick check of some of the stuff in CT, we'll need to know exactly what you're wanting to listen to. As with most areas now, they have a fair bit of Encryption it looks like. Anything labeled either DE or TE, on the database on that system you're not going to be able to hear.

The OP question has nothing to do with his location, what he wants to listen to or encryption, the pager does not affiliate with the system and will not map talk groups.

While I agree. He used the word "map" which I did not take to mean affiliate. As far as the rest I was trying to save him problems later on not hearing an encrypted TG. Thanks for your clarification .
