Mabey they got contracted to MotoTRBO? It's TDMA, so ya still wouldn't be able to listen unless you bought a TRBO radio. Yuck.

I am sure if they were going to some other system they would announce it somewhere on their website because that is such a big issue with the nascar fans..

Get real people, chill out, have you actually ever heard NASCAR officials channels, they offer nothing, the drivers are already using some digital channels for their back channels or common channels, but race freqs will still be analog for some time to come.

The spotter and driver freqs make no mention of digital and the race scanners that you rent will obviously make corrections as time goes on and more teams migrate to narrowband P25 for better use of spectrum.

Everyone just relax.

I would think that if this info is true, then some of the radio manufactures would be hopping mad. Was doing a search for more info on this story and came accross and ad by Amazon selling a scanner preprogrammed with Nascar (but it is not a digital scanner) selling for around $200.00. Think of the loss of income for Uniden if this is a true issue. Thinking 1000's of fans time $200.00 a pop. That is a big income loss for them. But, time will tell

Think of Uniden cashing in and making a cheaper digital scanner that only has to decode the digital stream that Nascar is using.

I wouldnt go within 50 miles of a Nascar race. How many people there really use scanners? It seems like something that I would do if I was there, but it would be hard to concentrate on monitoring because I would rather be whooping it up and having fun with beer instead.

I frequent Lime Rock Park in CT and there are some serious campers that monitor races, but they are a small minority that never move from their RV/trailer/tent extravaganza. Saw a guy last year monitoring a video feed. That was

I like airshows better for scanning. I always get a kick out of the local "antanaee-man" and the pasty HF guys in their callsign or YAESU hats:lol:

"Boogity, Boogity, Boogity boys, let's go racin"..... (I have always liked Darrell Waltrip but I cannot STAND THAT!!)

Mike Helton has messed with everything else on his watch as President of NA$CAR and now that Brian France is doing his little bit to wreck stock racing it only makes sense.

Hopefully MA-Com bought the naming rights to the Hollywood Hotel too and they will start broadcasting that jib-jab in OpenSky and since my TV won't do OpenSky I won't have to listen to Chris Meyers any more!

I know!

Now they have a japa-cheapo racing, some colored fellow, and its no longer a Winston cup!

Next thing you know, they are going to have to turn left instead of right!

Please, Nascar resists progress so much. Let them try a few things out. I'm suprised that they still dont race on the beach:lol:

Besides, since when does the average radio user know anything about the technology? I take any statement that "nobody will be able to scan our new frequencies" with an entire salt shaker.

I call Shenanigans on this also.

I guess you really don't know if you think they turn right except on a road course, of course

Where did that come from?
BTW, most oval track racing is counter clockwise and left turns are made :p

This irresponsible allegation is a bunch of B.S.

Y'all stop getting your panties in a wad. Where is the press release? Where is the substantiation of this news?

There is none.... Now get back to work.

digital?

Wow! That would be a big step for the teams, big expense. Those teams buy their own radios and communications. Can't imagine NASCAR making this expensive decisions for all the teams when some of them would never be able to afford what it takes.

Plus the fact, as mentioned, there's no mention of this from NASCAR. And the number of fans that bring in their scanners.

I was involved with a local NASCAR team as team chaplain for about 12 years, a small team by comparison to the others. Just for that team alone, we're talking about 25 to 30 radios! Whew, can't imagine the go-digital budget!

I wonder might there be some talk about NASCAR itself going digital so that the fan can't (or not likely to) hear them in their discussions. And, it's quite possible that some of the better teams might already have their own digital communication for the same reason and they have the money.

And, by the way, some of the funniest, greatest conversation has been at the expense of MRN's radio conversation during the commercial break and NASCAR.

It is good stuff!

Well said. Why don't they? Think of all the other possible uses for a cheap inexpensive digital radio for fire, ems, LEO's, RR.
That would be slick if there was a stand alone radio you could plug into a USB port, download your program and go!!
I asked Uniden engineering several years ago and got no reply.

Digital scanners are expensive because of the licensing fees they have to pay to DVSI. I really don't see how uniden could avoid that and lower the price of the scanner.

Link to a news story?

NASCAR is not doing a news release on this, it was hoped it would be kept quiet and it would just appear at Atlanta.... but the cats out of the bag now. :)

It only affects the officials... NOT the cars and teams, you will still get the race control and safety channels but all other channels used by officials will be digital, not the teams sso it won't affect in car comms etc.

Well at least you noticed I did say the officials channels and nothing about teams/drivers, but the fact is many DO listen to those lesser known channels that are going digital, mostly media who want to know the inside stuff but true diehard fans also listen to those channels. They offer more than you can imagine, why do you think they are going digital, and to a system the digital scanners CAN'T get? Because they don't want teams or the public hearing certain things.

Wow people are naive. I very seriously doubt they are going digital. Do you think this is the first time that digital/encryption has come up? NO!! Nascar has kept it away so far and I'm sure they havn't changed their mind. There is no proof for any of this. I listen to the officials channels and havn't heard any sensitive info on them (they say like wrecker go high and pace go low, and stuff like that not very interesting). It's not true, there's no proof.
