How many people there really use scanners? It seems like something that I would do if I was there, but it would be hard to concentrate on monitoring because I would rather be whooping it up and having fun with beer instead.

The majority of NASCAR fans use scanners. I can't imagine going to a race without using a scanner. Also, the headsets provide ear protection which is a must at NASCAR events.

I posted some stuff in the other NASCAR thread......I work for a race team and today at the track I asked one of the techs for Racing Radios......not the scanner renters or sellers, but the people who program the 2-ways for Nascar and the teams that use Racing Radios.......YES.....NASCAR is going digital.......BUT........the tower (race Control) and Timing and Scoring channels are stilll going to be rebroadcast in analog.......the teams are still analog.....only NASCAR itself is going digital.......so really, nothing will change......you can still listen to whichever teams you want....no problem......you do not need a digital scanner...........

Nascar

Firemen and some Nascar folks had MOTOTRBO XPR handhelds at Daytona 500. (operating in the analog mode, but for how long)

If digital is in the near future, I'd bet on TRBO, not P25. Darn near everything in use with NASCAR is typically Radius/Pro/Low Tier /\/\ stuff.

To the fellow asking how many scanners are at the track? try 1 in 3 spectators, maybe even 2 in 3 at some races. I see everything from BC100XLT's to PRO43's to SC200's to the RACESCAN preprogrammed radios you can rent or buy.

Your almost in the minority if you dont have one anymore.. Seems it has gotten very popular...

If you sent this message to NASCAR they are going to sit back and laugh!!!
Come on at least make some sort of attempt at appearing intelligent.
Learn how to capitalize and punctuate for a start.
It really isn't all that tough.
If you want to get the attention of an organization like NASCAR you need to have a slightly more professional approach.

In the long run NASCAR will go digital. as will most every service. this is due to the fact that the FCC is demanding spectral efficiency. Heck it really makes more sense for NASCAR so the teams can have more communications channels within the same RF space.
It will make sense for NASCAR to design these systems with FAN monitoring in mind as well as the need to private communications to co exist within the same system. This could easily be done with APCO 25 radios.
Give NASCAR time.
Also keep in mind that APCO 25 radios are about to see a BIG price drop. It has to happen. When it does APCO scanners will become the norm not the exception.
Nothing will stop the march of technology. That includes NASCAR moving to a digital system.
Will they do it this year at Atlanta? I don't think so. Will they do it with lots of fanfare? You bet they will they will want every NASCAR fan at the track to buy or rent a new apco25 radios.
Nascar fans are extremely brand supportcave. Uniden is one of those brands.

only the NASCAR officials are going digital.......NOT the teams.......the teams are still and will be analog..........the earth will not stop rotating and the sun will still rise tomorrow just because NASCAR is going didital......it DOES NOT affect the individual teams.......the teams can still be scanned with an analog scanner......along with two of NASCAR's frequencies that will be rebroadcast in analog............I work for a Nationwide Series team and the switch to digital next week will not phase us in the least.................

Personally, I don't care if NASCAR communications go digital. I don't listen to them anyways. I listen to the teams.

If and when the teams go digital, I'll just get a digital scanner.

Unless the teams were to go to a none P-25 form of digital, then your just SOL

I contacted Jaski.com, asked what they had heard and his reply was simple:

>Been told by a couple scanner companies that is BS. NASCAR is going to have some digital channels but Race Control and other channels that fans and teams listen to will be still broadcast in Analog or they will simulcast an analog broadcast.<

Impressive!

I had heard about renting at venue actually. Very cool!

I had even seen NASCAR themed scanner-binoculars. 10 years ago if that product was brought out, we would be laughing hystarically. Now it makes total sense:lol:

I like to be sarcastic and get the NASCAR guys going, but I really have nothing against it and find stuff like this very interesting.

You forgot about Toyota. When NASCAR let Toyota in that really ended my interest in the sport.

Mike Helton has messed with everything else on his watch as President of NA$CAR and now that Brian France is doing his little bit to wreck stock racing it only makes sense.

Hopefully MA-Com bought the naming rights to the Hollywood Hotel too and they will start broadcasting that jib-jab in OpenSky and since my TV won't do OpenSky I won't have to listen to Chris Meyers any more!

Why are NFL team communications encrypted, so the opposing team can't pick up their plays. I have no idea if racing teams are going encrypted or not, but if they do it has nothing to do with fans, but to keep the other teams from knowing when a car is having a problems, or how many tires they are going to change near the end of the race. This is a multi-billion dollar business with plenty of corporate spying go on.

I know that last year one of the "pit reporters" on one of the networks said that during practice the 24 team would switch channels when they pulled into the garage. they said that it was to a digital channel. I go to nascar and indy car races mostly at chicagolandspeedway and have at least two scanners if not more. I also keep at least one scanner on 24/7. so i listen to more than just the races.

Still lotta yada yaga yada & more BS... wheres the facts????

I tell you what you can do one of three things.... 1: call NASCAR's office in Daytona Beach
2: go to the Atlana race 3: quit whinning.....if you don't believe it check it out for yourself or quit posting that it's bs, you have already been given the facts from several sources. I already stated NASCAR was not putting out a news release, and if you paid attenrion I stated what channels were going digital.
