i hope this is the right place to ask this - really not finding much out there in terms of information aside from the racing electronics website and a couple others - they're not of much help. so here goes...

i have a scanner (uniden sc230) and normal pairS of headphones (no mics). looking to upgrade to a system w/ptt so i can both listen and talk to who i go to the race with (preferrably sharing a scanner). looking for the easiest/minimal investment considering the equipment that i already have...so questions are:

- generally speaking - what setup/new equipment would i need? would i just need the headsets or would i need that little intercom box to plug into (the gemini-4 system)?

also - i see another package that some use the little motorola 2-way radios...if i already have some of those - how easy would it be to do the scan/2-way talk using those? would i just need the headsets, and how would i set that up?

any help greatly appreciated! looking to get this all squared away for the richmond race on 5/2...CAN'T WAIT!

Since NASCAR only hits Richmond twice a year, it would probably be cheaper to simply rent that setup from the track. It's not cheap, but you can look at Racing Electronics website and get a price check. For the frequencies, go to the wiki pages, they are all correct.

Tell ya what I did...very low tech. I programmed my scanner to receive MURS and made it a priority channel. So, when we used our MURS radio to speak to one another, the scanner would go there immediately. We were listening to the scanner with RE headsets.

The problem: We were using external spkr/mic's connected to the 2-way radios. The ambient noise (e.g., RACE CARS!!!!) was too loud to permit intelligible transmissions trackside. It was fine if someone was at the food area or something, but trackside was just too loud to transmit....really needed noise cancelling mics.
