So it looks like in the NE BC area (Fort St John, Dawson Creek, Tumbler Ridge Etc) have switched both they're 911 and Dispatch services. Haven't heard anything on either BCAS, FD's or MOT frequencies. reading media releases that they have gone to 911 with E-Comm in Vancouver and dispatch services with North Island 911 corporation in Cambell River. Has anyone got any information as to if they have replace the past radion communications equipment over to E-Comms 700 or 800 Mhz system and replaced with the trunked sites etc. ? the data base info for all RCMP in NE BC is all Digital Encrypted at all sites.

BCAS, FD, and MOT were active on their existing analogue systems yesterday, while I was in Dawson Creek. FD was having intermittent issues being received by dispatch, but we're coming through fine on the repeater output.

THERE ARE NO FREQUENCY CHANGES, this is merely a changing of the incoming 911 call takers, as E-Comm has proven their selves with all the other lower mainland agencies they have taken on and their relationship to Telus.
There is no need to change all radio systems that they have in place, besides EHS is its own 911 and dispatch for all the province, MOH has nothing to do with incoming 911, so it is Fire that the district has farmed out,
So the region will loose the understanding of the call taker whom has never been to the NE region of the province to try and understand what area or exaction location the fire or smoke they see in the distance .
The region would likely never support a Wide area radio system , like here in the lower mainland, too cost prohibitive, and look at the holes that still exist with the players, not all fire depts are on E-Comm, and drive to the border of GVRD + FVRD and they are not part of the new system, ? Doh , and talk about your secrecy , Port Moody fire bought the kool aid and is now encrypted, seriously ?
Listen to their pager frequency in analog and still know what is going on ??

I highly doubt you will see a province wide 700/800MHz trunk system in BC outside of the lower mainland. It is just not feasible. The site could would dwarf Alberta to provide coverage.

Could a wide area VHF P25 system happen? Sure. But again it would be cost prohibitive. One issue would be available VHF pairs. Second issue making it specially difficult(and REALLY expensive) is a lack of power grid. There is a reason the MOF system is mostly solar.

Will MOH/BCAS/MOF go digital? Only time will tell. If they do go digital, it would most likely be on their existing frequencies.

I think you will see more and more fire departments move to digital technologies though. DMR is attractive because it has 2 talk paths per RF channel. This can allow municipalities to have both fire and municipal works on one repeater, saving/sharing infrastructure costs. But more so because it is about half the price or less, than the cost of P25.

I won’t get into the whole local call taker issue(non-issue) or encryption. Mind you AES-256 keeps their comms from being out online with out their permission quite effectively.
