Hi everyone. My name is Johnny. Im new to the world of handheld scanners. I just purchased my Pro97 today and need help operating it. First off where can I find the frequency of police/fire in NYC? Once I find it how can I manually type in the frequency? Can this scanner pick up cordless / cell phones? Any help would be grealty appreciated.

The manual explains how to program frequencies manually. I haven't tried it yet so I can't help you. I use a program called Win97, which can be downloaded at http://www.starrsoft.com, to program my scanner but you will need a pc/scanner interface cable in order to use this software.
The scanner can pick up certain cordless phones but not cell phones.

PRO-97 Tips
I have been using my Pro-97 since last December, the Pro-97 has never given me in problems.
If you have a good 800mhz system in your area; then by all means learn to program a trunked system it will allow you to Lock out the dog catcher and those public works guys going down to main street to repair the same broken water line they do every week, and allow you to focus on Police, Fire and otherfirst responders.
I recommend win 97 you can go pick what Freq. Are systems and load them directly to your PRO-97 vie the interface cable you can buy at your Local radio shack.

There is also a USB Interface Cable.
Also if you want to really tune in the 800 MHz the check out the 800 MHz Antenna at Radio Shack I use it and believe me it gives lot more range on 800MHz Side.
