If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Need to talk to a Harris dealer, feature encryption issue

Some time ago I purchased a feature encryption upgrade for my XG100M to add feature 47. Instead I got a string that gave me other features,
but 47 was missing.
I asked someone "in the loop" with access to the Harris feature database, and he said my ESN was provisioned as I had requested. With 39 and 47 as required,
but he could not give me the FES that is associated with it.
All I need is for someone with TAC access to run my ESN and give me the current FES associated with it. That's all.

Who did you purchase the string from and how come they cannot help if you paid them money?

Who can do that when the features required are numbered above 40? Hypothetical question of course.

Better yet, all I need is my own registered FES data from the TAC. It should be different than the string currently in the radio, because the string in it does not have the feature I ordered. It's rare but it could be a typo in the string I was given which doesn't give a featuredata error, and is valid for a different feature set by sheer accident.

Yes.

No more questions about any of that.

This isn't a history lesson.

I need to get in touch with someone with access to the TAC feature encryption database and that's that.

If you can do that, talk to me. I would really appreciate the assistance.

If you just want to jabber about this, don't waste my time.

Wow, OK.

Was going to help just wanted a little background first, but sounds like you've got things under control.

Good luck.

Sorry, not sorry. I ask a question and people can't just be happy to answer it if if they're able. If you ask me who can fix a flat tire near you, I'd suggest the local Tire Kingdom. Or whatever tire shop is near you that has any kind of decent reputation. I wouldn't ask what you ran over or where you were when you did it. Because I WILL RESPECT YOUR PRIVACY. And it DOESN'T MATTER to the subject at hand.

Try that. Respect mine. I don't have to tell you the history of the dealers I've dealt with. It's not even relevant to the question.
If my insistence on you staying in your lane while asking if you might be able to help means you get butthurt and won't help, that's absolutely fine with me.

I'm getting too old to be as nice as I used to be. But back then I was a suckup, at least in my own opinion. Trying to not do that anymore. Now I'm more about boundaries. Respecting yours, and expecting mine to be respected as well.

I'm sorry you feel that a few simple questions invades your privacy. Nobody on here owes you anything and nobody is probably going to help you with such a bad attitude. Requesting Help for someone to access TAC resources for some old man on RR to check on their ancient 100M feature upgrade that they apparently paid for isn't something most are willing to jump to.

FYI, TAC is going to want to know a LOT of info other than just running your numbers. It isn't that easy. I know this because I deal with TAC every-single-day. I'd contact your local dealer for further assistance.

Have a good day, sir.

I've already told you everything you'd probably want to ask anyway. My former dealer is out of contact, for all I know he's no longer consuming oxygen. Can't give you more info than that, really. Other than the ESN and feature data in it. What else is there to know that matters to you? It's an all band enabled 100M, it serves all my current needs in one radio, and if it was operating with Phase II then it'd serve all my ongoing needs and wants in a mobile radio. And I don't have the budget for an XL200M or an APX8500.

Who said anything about free? I'm willing to pay a reasonable fee to get the information. I just don't need to be grilled about my life history in the process.

It should have been obvious from the start that I'm asking for info my dealer should have had, and of course I'd have gone back to him IF HE WAS AVAILABLE for me to contact him about it. That I had to ask implies that this isn't the case.

My only suggestion here is start searching for another Harris dealer willing to work with you.
I can say L3 dealers are droppping like flies, and L3 Harris simply won't be of any help.
My local dealer has dumped Harris, now exclusively Motorola and Kenwood.
I feel in the same boat with issues for the XG-100m, and no one willing to help.
I resorted to buying another radio that had the features I needed, even lucked out with one without the wideband disable.

The Harris FES tool requires ESN, Model # and usually wants the existing string in order to do a lookup in the database, although I can find usually find strings without the existing string. And when I say model, not just 100M, it needs the exact like XM-100M-D02.

I can get you all that. There's a discrepancy between the features I ordered and the features I got when I loaded the provided string, and I want to know if they gave me the wrong string or if the order itself was placed wrong.
