New AZWINS Sites

Site 218 is likely not Burnt Mtn. I'm in Ahwatukee, and I can receive it at about 1 bar on a handheld in some parts of my house. South or Southwest of the valley would be a good guess based on Neighbor sites. I can't receive anything from Gila Bend since I have the Estrella mountains in the way.

Maybe toward Maricopa, Stanfield, or Sacaton in Pinal County?

If that's the case, then it's probably meant to help cover I-8 between Gila Bend and Casa Grande. Maybe some stretch that South Mtn doesn't cover well due to shadowing by another hill/mountain.

I'll still give a listen the next time I'm out at the Burnt Well rest area.

I am in Laveen 202/Baseline Rd area and can not pick it up. I locked the SDS100 on that site and it does not show anything reception wise.

I drove out to 27th Ave and Broadway Sunday evening to pick up dinner and could not pick up anything on this site. I had it hooked up to and external antenna on my vehicle. My guess maybe something out west?

If it can be picked up 1 bar in Ahwatukee, I'm thinking south or southwest of the Valley, maybe to help cover SR 85 between Buckeye and Gila Bend, or to help cover I-8 somewhere between Gila Bend and Casa Grande, or SR 238 between Gila Bend and Maricopa.
I might be able to take a drive out to the Burnt Well rest area on Wednesday to see if the Maricopa County and RWC sites are fully up and running yet. If I can get an early enough start, maybe I'll take a drive down 85 to Gila Bend as well.

I did not get out to the Tonopah area or down to Gila Bend today. I stayed up to try to watch the lunar eclipse, but that turned out to be a bust due to cloud cover.

I might try again next week.

Not sure if this will help... I have White Tanks site programmed into my TRX-1 and can receive MCSO as well as DPS dispatch and response on both agencies. I'm in the area of 51st Ave and Baseline. As many people have stated before. I do have to be in the right spot to get transmissions, but I do get them with that site programmed into radio. MCSO has its own CC which is different from DPS's CC. Just program each accordingly and see what happens. Forgot to add.. The CC"s I'm talking about are for their P25 system.

The state (AZWIN) has a new site that we're trying to identify a location for. The control channel is showing the White Tanks site and the South Mtn site as neighbors, so we believe that it is somewhere south, southwest, or west of the Valley. We just want to figure out where it is.

I did some transmitter hunting last night after work and found Site 218. It is located at 17th Ave and the 202 South Mountain freeway. Full signal at that location with no antenna, and attenuator on.

The transmitter is on utility pole only about 80-100 foot tall, so it is a small coverage filler site. This explains why no one is hearing it in Laveen or in the West Valley, as South Mountain is in the way. The antenna configuration on the tower appears to be directionally oriented toward the Southeast, so it is likely proving coverage for the 202 South Mountain freeway, and Highway 347.

I also took a ride down to Maricopa on 347, and the site provides good coverage toward Maricopa with about 4-5 bars on the north side of town.

Ok. I just came back from Gilbert (heading West on the 202) and picked it up just east of the I-10. I was going to say about 24th st I was getting full bars, then lost it at the “Estrella Rd” sign, just west of the casino.
