I am in the market to buy a new battery for my Uniden bc250d scanner and found this site on the internet, Has anyone bought this battery and also has anyone done any business with this company http://www.leeselect.com/shopping/holder_battery.htm .It looks like a good replacement battery with a longer life span and it does not get a memory after you charge it several times like the battery that came with the bc250d. Any information would be appreciated.

It was a good deal when the NiMH cells were about three times the cost they are now, but now that you can buy a 2X00 mAH cells for a couple bucks each, it's far cheaper to rebuild your own if you have any soldering experience at all. Make sure you buy the cells with the tabs on them, though. You can easily rebuild two packs plus for the cost of that one pack.

But, if you're not handy with the soldering iron, I suppose that is the price you pay. As prebuild packs go, that is one of the better ones.

I built my own. Pictures are available here: http://photos.groups.yahoo.com/grou....view=t&.done=http://briefcase.yahoo.com/

Within the past week or so, I've been noticing that the batteries are getting weak and discharging very quickly. It's safe to say I got 1 year, 3 months out of this pack.

Also, I've never owned any Uniden HHs under a BC250, so I may stand corrected on this, but the battery pack for the 250 is only compatible with the 250. I think the 245 uses a different pack. It appears to be a different voltage as well. Again, I could be wrong, but you might want to verify and follow-up here.

You have to be a memebr to see those pics. But rebuilding a battery pack isnt to hard. Just dont overheat the battery. Hell i rebuilt a 9 volt one time just for the sheer fun of it and to prove my father in law wrong.

My Battery pack only lasted about 1 year 3 months too, this is why I was going to make my own but I just went to the uniden web site and they have the battery pack for $ 13.85 but I had to go onto their back order list to receive one, they will let me know when the battery pack is in stock, I'm #22 on the list waiting for the battery pack. I think I'll order two at a time.

I built a pack also with the same brand of batteries that you have in the pictures. Your soldering work is a bit cleaner and neater than mine though. The charger in your pictures looks to be better than the one I made. What kind is it and did you have to modify it to make the plug that plugs into the battery pack.

I used Energizer NiMH batts. They can be found very inexpensively at your local WalMart/Sam's Club. They just started pushing some 2300mAh batts, so that should get some more life out them. The ones I built were 1800, I believe.

I charge that pack IN the radio, which I've heard horror stories about, but I keep a watchful eye and check for heat dissipation often. I only built the external charger to have the OEM batt pack ready if I was doing some serious scanning. Other than the pack and the charger that I built, nothing else was modified. Anything that was on the radio is still on there, and no plugs were harmed in the making of the pack. ;-)

As a matter of fact, I decided to run some trial-and-error tests in the next couple days. I'm wondering if the charging circuit is crapping out or if it really is my batt pack getting weak. I charged up MY pack in the external charger and have been running the OEM pack in the radio. I'll swap the 2 around and see what happens. If it dies early, then I was right and it IS the batts (which I'm not complaining about... 1+ year is fine, I got my money's worth... I'll probably play around with the AA/Credit Card configuration)... if I get my old lifetime out of them, then it IS the charging circuit, and the warranty has expired. Not sure if I'll end up sending it out or not, but we'll worry about that when I've concluded what the issue is.

In the meantime, it's 12/25 and I have a 246t to go open up later on this afternoon! YAY! :) Speaking of charging and batteries, I put (4) of those Energizer 2300's in the charger last night to pop into the 246 today!

Have a safe Christmas and an even safer New Years everyone! :D
