So, I see that CHP released their new CAD system today. It looks the same to me other then they changed the colors and the maps are not available......Anyone else notice the changes?
Yeah I definitley noticed them...many UI changes...but not much else that I noticed....Yet I did notice that if you choose a Communication Sector, it now saves it for the next time you visit the page like it used to....I personally hate the new colors tho....
While I'm glad I can now choose a Comm Center to view that will be remembered, I cannot get it to stay on "hot spots" like the older older version did. Big improvement from the previous edition.
I think the script they had wasn't setting the Cookie on your browser, so it never lasted very long.
I submitted a suggestion 6 months ago they go to Lat/Lon instead of Thomas Guide- and it seems they are provisioning for using Lat/Lon (cool). If you go to Sacramento only, they already are posting Lat/Lon.
I hope they continue to post the Thomas Brothers map page/grid as well. I can't always look up the lat/long on a map program, but usually have a Thomas Brothers book handy.

Fewer and fewer agencies are using Thomas Bros - I haven't cracked one open in about 4 years. Between Phase II wireless and 3G/4G MDT connectivity, web-based mapping is becoming the standard. The Thomas Bro can easily be a layer added by GIS staff but not necessarily exported out to other applications such as online CAD.
Sacramento Valley edition is still stuck at 40th edition put out in 2009
I think one of the major issues they need to fix is the "Hot Spots" Details + Units column. It only goes up to 9 detail lines and then the incident disappears when the 10th line is added. Probably 80% of the CHP incidents have 9 detail lines or more, so a lot of the real Hot Spot incidents are not being displayed longer than 5 or 10 minutes. They need to set the Max Limit at about 200 or 300. I've sent the IT crew a couple e-mails on it over the last 2 months but hasn't changed yet.
Looks like this feature has been fixed. I see an incident under "hot spots" out of Woodland with 70 lines. Big wreck on 5 involving 4 cars and a big rig.
Nah that was just a glitch. Occasionally, maybe once a week, an incident will pop in there with 30 or more detail lines but it's pretty rare. It was pretty common to have incidents with that many lines in the old CAD version.
It probably uses to many resources to constantly check every call for line counts in the Hot Spots section. Probably frees up more resources when it stops counting incidents with 10+ detail lines.
