• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

There's a GMRS group in California that has an FCC experimental license that allows them to run DMR on a few GMRS pairs. They have a DMR repeater or two. They've had the experimental license for a few years.
So, it's something that is possible, if you want to go through the process of getting the experimental license. And I'm sure the FCC is aware that there's a desire to go to digital at some point. It was proposed many years ago in the last GMRS/FRS shuffle. Eventually, through attrition, wide band gear will disappear and narrow band will replace it. Same thing will happen with analog and digital.
In some place, people are just going DMR on GMRS anyway. There are some repeaters out there but none in my area yet. However, we do hear DMR on simplex from time to time.

The undertone of those comments leads me to believe that this might be more about wrestling away repeater pairs from owners that are "just
@Hans13, the real undertone of these posts is histrionic attention seeking and word salad responses, peppered liberally with straw man arguments. OP has done this before.

Yep! I hear it as well every now and again. I know some of the analog CCRs are coming programmed with a GMRS frequency or two entered from the factory. I would be very curious to determine whether that's the case with some of the digital ones as well.

BTW: As far as repeater pairs are concerned, ANYONE Can put up a GMRS Repeater, there is NO Repeater coordination!

Your proposals are humorous and imaginative, I will give you that. When industry professionals dissect your proposals, you straw-man away to the next convenient topic in your flight of thoughts. Having these 'industry saving' solutions without a real tangible problem other than "ZOMG why DONT THE COMPANIES WANT TO MAKE THE MONEY$$$$ BY HAVING ALL THESE KEWL NEW FRS/GMRS/UHF/VHF/FPP/DMR/FASCINATOR RADIOZ WITH 6.02x10^23rd CHANNELS THAT I CREATED ONLINE!?" that you have internally created does not an intelligent discussion on Al Gore's Internet make.
