As I pulled off the QEW today at Northshore I noticed a cruiser with a special licence plate, OPPxxx.

From what I remember OPP vehicles had 'normal plates' four letters, three numbers in the same number sequence as regular cars. This one was defintely distinct, I think it said OPP on the plate.
Looked cool.

Is this a new thing?

These plates are to co-incide witht the OPP's 100 Anniversary as mentioned previously. The plates are just sequetnilally numbered. They have some around Leeds/Grenville County and they do not match the talk group (2OPS38). Some of the plates I have seen are OPP114, OPP128.

It is just the luck of the draw as far as plate numbers go.

That makes sense, I figured it was random.

Thank you.

Ya I have a digital scanner, have had one for 5 yrs plus now.

The unit I saw going to the Burlington detachement was 50 or 52. Like the last poster said the numbering system is in no way tied in with the radio talkgroups, Besides Burlington is OPS39 and anything in London's comm centre runs between 1-18.

I haven't noticed that at all in the London area. I'll have to keep a sharper eye on them....

Do you suppose they're paying the MTO $200 a set (of our money) like we have to pay for vanity plates? What next, pearl coat metallic paint on the cars? Don't laugh, I'll bet there's public money involved in this.

In their defense I suppose if they are paying $262 per set to the MTO I should see at least one more crater on the 401 filled for each set purchased, so that's a good thing.

Of course I'm NOT seeing the potholes being repaired, so......

Hmm.. Ok. I haven't noticed any so far. I followed a new black & white into Ingersoll this morning and it had a regular ABCD 123 plate on it.
