If your by the community center it's pretty open around there, so if you pick up lake countys own system and lake county state system that makes sense. Where if he lives in the library area it is more clustered, with few more trees. Plus the SDS scanners are better and more sensitive to weak signals.

I'm sure u got them programmed right, most towers are pretty far from us. I'm surprised u get the Morocco site on ur SDS, it's pretty far. U are couple miles closer than me, and more in the open than me if ur by the old fd. Especially getting it a rubber ducky if that's what ur using. SDS are great scanners.

So do u get the lake village tower on Newton Countys new system? Can your friend pick this up at all? If he can't id wait for but I think the tower isn't broadcasting at full strength yet, they don't have a license so unless they got an authorization that don't show on the FCC it would be illegal to operate at full power. So I'd wait if he can't get it, it cud change in month or so. I also have lived in sumava forever.

I wonder if he knows you, his sister says there are a couple houses by hers that have "big antennas" by her, if I get his permission I'll dm his name to you. Or you can DM yours to me and I'll ask him if he knows you.

It would suck only hearing the vhf frequency and hear only dispatch on both the FD/EMS/EMA vhf frequency and Sheriff frequency. You might catch a fire, EMS, or Sheriff units on vhf but it's very rare.

Ya I heard the fire units before and medic 3 I believe also, it was probably either the Medic unit trying to get dispatch and got no response, several units have tried get dispatch over past couple months but never get a response from dispatch.

I got it set to record also so if I'm not here I catch it. If you can, can u look in upper right top corner of ur scanner and let me know how many bars u get on Newton Countys new system or if ur up to it I'm kinda curious ur signal on the Morocco site, and both lake county sites. If not it's fine. I'm so jealous u can get them all good on just a stock antenna, i get nothing on most of those systems but lil bit on Newton Countys new system on the stock antennas.

Do u know if he can pick up the new Newton County system? If he can then he should be good on the 996p2 even if it's not the best on simulcast, but being like around 4 miles away from the North tower and almost 18 miles away from the south tower he should be good.

The new system I cud get 4 bars even 5 on a good night depending on where I put the scanner at with the rubber ducky on my psr800 on 700.08125 but when the control channel switched to 700.09375 I got absolutely nothing really no matter where I'd put the scanner.. If it got windy even the 4 bars or so on the best day wud essentially fluctuate and go out.

Ya on the conventional vhf frequency 155.0700 and 158.8050 (central antenna)/154.4675 (north antenna), it's only the dispatch, so ya it definitely makes sense ... What it is, is the dispatch talks on both the conventional and state system at the same time, they key up on both, but the units, whether FD, police, EMS they talk on the state system.

It's supposed to be the same when they switch to the new one also... Dispatch will key up both conventional and on the new system simultaneously but the units will only be on the new system.

If your buddy don't get the conventional dispatch very well for EMS, FD tell him make sure he gets the 154.4675 cause that antenna is right on that silo on the farm when u go east on 10 just past the railroad tracks just east of 300 west in lake village. So it's very close to him (you). Cause the 158.8050 frequency is down by Enos. He still will only hear the dispatch but the frequency will come in better. He will just have to wait for the new system and pick that up to get both sides of the conversation.

Ya there is no traffic essentially on the new system yet, what I was saying in my last post about hearing the Medic and fire etc, ive even 3 officers at one point on different days and dispatch didn't respond, I was talking about the new system. I've never heard dispatch on it yet. Thanks for checking the bars out and taking the time to do that for me, I appreciate it

Thanks for all your help and guidance, I had my buddy bring the 996 over yesterday and I reprogrammed everything using ProScan, but this time I added the Monon tower with the Morocco tower, and low and behold, he can now hear Newton on Safe-T, I had no idea certain towers would make a difference, I thought the nearest tower would be the better choice, thanks again.

Thanks for all your help and guidance, I had my buddy bring the 996 over yesterday and I reprogrammed everything using ProScan, but this time I added the Monon tower with the Morocco tower, and low and behold, he can now hear Newton on Safe-T, I had no idea certain towers would make a difference, I thought the nearest tower would be the better choice, thanks again.

That is amazing and surprising, monon is like 30 miles to pick that up on a stock antenna is amazing. He is up there in the open though by the firehouse. Your right though the nearest tower is usually better especially when it in your count and half the distance away. Nonetheless, glad we cud help and happy he can now get it.

I been searching for the license every which way, uls search, uls application search, asr search, oet search etc etc nothing under the county, nothing for the town that the tower close to me is at on, the asr search, nothing under EF Johnson etc etc

But one thing I noticed is supposedly the FRN for EF Johnson is 0004201521 and what's odd that I noticed is that the 420 part directly in the middle of the FRN number which just so happens to be the Sysid and NAC right now on the system.

Upon more investigation, supposedly EF Johnson uses the basic default system ID and NAC on systems. I read "EF Johnson ships their ATLAS P25 repeaters or site in a box kits, the hardware often comes pre programmed with default System ID and NAC of 420 for shop testing"

I kinda wondered why it didn't have normal SYSTEM ID like 6BD, 1A4, 6BC etc. and having same NAC as System ID like this one currently does. Nonetheless what was put in the DB as System ID might not be right and probably will change when the system is out of this test mode.

This all cud be wrong cause I'm asking AI and cud just be looking for a ghost that ain't there, but I thought it was interesting and worth noting.

Edit side note: heard 56-51 (Goodland PD) try to get dispatch 3x the other night on the DB TG 30, so still points to it being Sheriff Dispatch..... Also just now two 6 second transmissions on TG 26 encrypted TG so that seems more verification for both those TG's relative to DB entries

Got another encrypted TG yesterday around 7:30-7:38pm central. 4 transmissions total, 3 of the 4 were 3 seconds, 1 was 4 seconds. TG 22
