I ordered the Radtel RT-880 version when this thread came out. Just cleared customs yesterday, so hopefully it will arrive soon.
I got the RT-860 version and have really enjoyed its capabilities, if not programming it. Civil and military airband reception is very nice, and the AM audio makes it even better. The 860 is now my primary airband radio, and having HF reception rounds out its usefulness. I was surprised that it actually transmits on 11 meters, but it's not too bad. It would be great the way my friends and I used CB in the 90s, using SSB primarily and FM for close range, as a campsite/work area HT on 11m. With MURS and FRS/GMRS coverage, it's an all-around HT for mobile meet-ups.
HF reception is good, with an appropriate antenna. The stock donuts are fine for broadcasts and strong signals, but the RT-860 really shines with an active loop. It's a nightly contest for me to see which radio pucks up RNZI on 17.675 MHz, the RT-860 with an MLA-30+ or the Eton Elite Executive with a 200' loop. The RT-860 wins 2 out of three times, pretty good for a radio about 2/3rds the size of an SDS100.
