I’ve haven’t seen any updates in the media or online. I’ll be in the area and will try to monitor to see the new towers are put in service. If the delay has been for testing at height of foliage the trees and crops are probably close to their peak.

I listened last night in Sangamon County but still no traffic on the County Simulcast system that I could detect. Maybe it’ll be activated August 1st. I’ll report if I hear anything.

Rural Fire is now live on the Sangamon Simulcast System.
Paging is on RF6 TG37536 encrypted and on 158.82 in the clear.
The multicasting with the VHF system appears to be turned off.

Thank you for the updated information. Am I to assume then, that the new system, once it is up and fully operational will be encrypted? If that is the case I will not bother purchasing a new scanner. I was hoping that they would keep things, or at least the mainstream communications in the clear, but honestly I didn't expect it. Sangamon county is surrounded by encryption on basically all sides. Christian county, Logan county, Morgan county and Macon county have all been encrypted for some time. Perhaps it's a bit early to assume anything, but being a scanner listener since about the mid 70's I was hoping to hang on to one of the few hobbies that I have left........

RF 1 and RF 2 have been in the clear so far today 8/28/24.
It sounds like each fire department has their own tac/local channel. This evening there has been a lot of traffic on them as each department has been playing with the new radios and vehicle repeaters.

It sounds like it is fully operational to me.

Thanks so much for the info. May I ask are you using one of the SDS Uniden scanners ? I was told that one of those would be the best choice since it will be a simulcast system. Thanks in advance if you don't mind me asking. You can always private message me as well.

Observations: IEMA Region 7, TG30324, and Capital Airport Public Safety, TG6266, have affiliated with the Sangamon Simulcast along with the Sangamon County Fire Departments.

Why wouldn’t they have added the Springfield and Chatham sites to this simulcast site? It seems like ISP, the Sangamon County Sheriffs Office and the Rural PDs could benefit from using the other towers.
