UNIDEN IS COMING OUT WITH A SCANNER IN LATE 2005 THERE WILL BE A SCANNER THAT HAS 6,000 CHANNELS 300 TALKGROUPS OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT. THATS ALL I KNOW RIGHT NOW, HE DID NOT GIVE ALOT OF INFORMATION I KNOW SOMEONE WHO WORKS WITH U INIDEN TOLD ME, THE PUBLIC WAS NOT SUPOSED TO KNOW UNTIL AT LEAST 2005. WHEN I GET MORE INFO I WILL GIVE IT COOL RIGHT I THINK THIS JUST MIGHT BE MY BEST SCANNER YET WHEN IT COMES OUT. TO FAR AWAY TO TELL YET ILL POST WHEN I GET MORE INFO I DONT KNOW THIS MIGHT BE FALSE THOUGH TO EARLY TO SAY BUT HOPE NOT.

Scanners are getting to be like computers. There's always a better one just around the corner. I'm sure both Uniden and GRE will producing scanners with channels only limited by the amount of memory and you'll be able to use something like an SD card for basically unlimited channels. Unfortunately, with the spread of more currently unmonitorable systems and encryption, all these fancy features may not mean much in a few years.

I'm waiting on the lap-top scanner. Looks just like a computer but its a scanner. Antenna built into top behind the screen. Full trunking features and super internet usage. Perfect for the travleler to use in car or hotel. I've already saved up $14.00 and I only got $2000. more to go.

'I agree with the laptop idea, but, I'd like the scanner to operate as an add-in to a computer - passing the demodulated stream in digital form to the PC for demodulation and decoding via plug-ins. Essentially a PC controlled tuner and demodulator with digitization of the demodulated output (not decoding, just digitize the native analog or digital signals for PC decoding).

With the above, freeware plug-ins would show up for almost all know systems and any weak encryption would be foiled. This would truly protect security of real systems, since weak ones would be known to more than a quiet few.

sounds like a great radio, If you could ask your contact why unide doesnt incorporate a wx radio alert system while scanning like radio shack scanners and a possible full function remote control? thanks scannerdweeb

The BC246T has WX Priority. Checks for a weather alert while you are scanning.
