Some of the 700 band HAS to be used for data. It is wise not go get the different
700 MHZ allocations confused. The main area on 700 is going through auction
right now for a public safety/commercial partnership. It probably will be mired up
for many years, as they are not getting enough in bids.
Thanks for letting me know the 700 plan that I ALREADY read. Sounds like your informed. I was not trying to punk you out, but can if I need to.

I threw that in as a communications option - it of course is not radio based. I can assure you that NAWAS goes down - more than most users know. The old days of it being bulletproofed are gone, as most of our telco people are no
longer of the old "bell" mentality. Nother story for a nother place.
"Not radio based". Good observation.

I've never had NAWAS go down on me, and I've never had an agency not answer me. Sounds like you're known around here, and from what I take of your smart a$$ messages, no one answers you because they dont want to talk to YOU.

"Bulletproofed"? I've never known a system that can't go down.

Until it gets turned down.
Sounds like someone has no SOP's, and/or supervision without situational awareness concerning not turning the volume down. These people weren't trained properly, or their staffing is such that they can't handle all the radio traffic with one person. Not following SOP's can lead to disaster, or death in some disiplines.

One thing that may happen, is like some states, the state looks at building out a VHF or UHF system statewide, with gateways in the metro areas to 700/800. Missouri is looking at doing this now. Provides the rural areas with coverage much cheaper and better than 800. It basically uses the best band for the region, with gateways in between.
"May happen"? I can find that out for you if you want.

Just some thoughts I had, and intelligence I’ve gatheredthat I could talk about.

Be glad I post at all here.

In closing, don't be a hater iamhere300. Lets try to post positive posts, not post "I know more than him, so I'm going to try to make him look like he don't know what he's talking about". The public is in here also, so lets not try to confuse them. Slow your role!

I actually was one of the people at the state warning point that would take
care of notifications and calling out the telco to repair the state side NAWAS
circuits. It meant that I was aware of system failures, often times aware of them
and had them repaired before users were aware.

The bulletproof was in reference to the NAWAS, when it was installed and maintained
by AT&T. Back in those days, the folks at AT&T were true "craftsmen" and the telco
system was overbuilt to an extreme. Facilities commonly included facilities that were
hardened against nuclear attack - and employees that took that to heart. I happen to
own a number of those facilities that AT&T has sold, and am very familiar with the system, being an avid historian of that company and its systems.

Now adays, the emphasis on survivability is basically gone.

No arguement there. Training, supervision, ethics all play into it. It still happens though.

Re:

For those of you in east Tennesssee, where this "Phase-1" of the statewide system is going, keep an eye on FCC records for new licenses in the 700 & 800 MHz bands. This includes Bradley, Meigs, McMinn, Rhea, Anderson and Blount. If you're around these counties, check your listings too. Also, rebanding is happening now for current 800MHz users...look for new frequency assignments in those counties the next few months.
It's going to be a busy 2008/2009 in terms of new systems going up in the middle and southern valley locations.
Cheers!
