• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I am currently on GMRS1 channel on a Baofeng UV-9g. I see the blue light come on from time to time. I am thinking I am receiving a signal from somewhere but only hear static no voices. Is this because the signal is too weak to have the voices come thru. I have looked at my GMRS.com for repeaters in my area and do not find any. Just learning so be kind just a newb.

Also, could be due to the fact that the radio has poor selectivity to reject adjacent channel RFI or EMI from electrical devices that you find with CCR POS junk.

Could be a weak signal or just static/interference.
Try listening in different locations and try listening to all the channels.
Yes it seems my WIFI router may have been causing he static. I moved outside and no more of the static. Still no communications but no static.

Kinda tells me that the selectivity is very poor in rejecting unwanted noise. I guess that would be typical for a $35 Boofwanger radio. You might want to look into getting a real radio.

You can pick up a good used Kenwood or Motorola radio for about $100-250 that will last a lot longer and won't give you any problems for a long time.

I have a GMRS programed as a system into my XG-100 base and use a discone. I park on the national calling channel (Ch 22). In 5 months
only heard two call.

Even a properly designed high quality receiver will be affected by poorly designed crap products that put out wideband noise or a narrowband junk right on on your receive frequency.
Sometimes all you can do is eliminate the source or move your antenna or radio far enough away from the source that it's no longer a problem.

What communications are you expecting to hear? Do you have a second radio, or is there someone else you know with a radio?
I was not sure about what I was expecting to hear. Was thinking I may hear some chatter if someone was talking. The radio I have came with 2 radios. Will try one to the other on a secret frequency, I think that's what it was called, to see if they work that way.

I may look into that, although with even repeaters far away I am not sure it is worth it. Zip code is 43543 in NW Ohio

Interesting that some people just want to **** on the OP's radios when the problem may simply be that no one in his area is transmitting on channel 1 ...

Then why not just try a test, radio to radio, on GMRS 1?
