New Transit Buses

As I ride NJ Transit buses I often hear transmissions that sound like it is coming from a control center. I asked the driver and he said that all he knows is that it is an 800 MHz frequency and it is not on their trunked radio network. Does anyone know what it could be because I can't find anything in the DB. IS it possiblt simplex?

A simple google search with radio reference and NJ Transit pulled this up. May difficult to receive being Tetra.

Yes it’s the TETRA system,I provide a feed that primarily has the southern buses on it:

As a daily rider on the 559 line they use a system called the Clever Device (Transit Control Head (TCH) – Clever Devices) that’s above the driver’s seat that has different options on the display like bus stops and the time points it also alerts the driver when the control center is trying to call them or makes a general announcement.

As I had time during lunch, I searched past RR threads and this came up....
No, buses operated by NJTransit Bus Operations do not use the trunked system. Two of the frequencies (857 & 859.3875) are set up as conventional channels. You should also program the input frequencies (812 & 814.3875). The frequencies are simplex, therefore you will not hear the mobile unit transmitting unless you have the input frequencies programmed and are in close proximity to the transmitting unit....
So I guess my question has now changed to, are these conventional frequencies (at the time 2012) migrate to the TETRA System?

I believe ALL NJT Buses operate on TETRA now. Correct me if I am wrong
