As of this date, the issue with us cellular customers remain, and have started to have a delay of between 2-10 minutes on other carriers as well. Any ideas on this? Where do i need to go next?

Steve,

I have TTD setup just for my own personal fun use through VZW. I have TTD setup to email me the second the tones are detected and I'll get an email before the tones finish coming over the air -- so I know my SMTP layer is perfect and not a bottleneck.

However, I have been seeing anywhere from 6-20minute delays on the audio file delivery via MMS. I am starting to suspect that the queuing mechanism used by the SMS infrastructure gets backed up because of the attachments. This is a total guess on my part based on the fact that other MMS texts to the same phone arrive timely.

The easiest solution to test this theory is to send two alerts. The first one goes out as a text message indicating an event is toning out, the second one is an email of that file. Instead of playing it out of their text messages they can open their email on their phone and it's attached.

If text message delivery is critical then you could use the scripting functionality of TTD to push the audio file up to a web server, and text the recipients a web link to that file that they can click on. If my theory that the attachment is causing these delays has any merit this would probably be a viable work around.

I have a strange issue that maybe someone can advise on if they have seen or heard of this issue. Lemme start off my giving some tech specs. I have ttd 65c running on dropbox. I really dont like it running from dropbox, but our fire chief and dispatch needs to have the ability to send admin messages. Has been this way since 65c came out. smtp server im using is gmail port 587. Earlier this year (around april) i started having an issue with us cellular customers not receiving the page out at all or having a serious delay up to 12 hours after the page. All other customers seem to be not affected at that time...sprint, verizon..etc. getting the pages within 30-45 seconds. I have watched the debug screen, and all pages are processed and sent from ttd as normal. I see the pages in the sent folder in gmail as well. I have been in contact with the Engineers for us cellular and test several test pages with them while on the phone. They reported that they where seeing the messages on their server as pending. That issue was resolved at the beginning of August. Everything worked perfect for about 2 weeks. Now, im having the same issue with us cellular customers. Again, I check all the normal stuff and all is good on ttd end. I speak with the engineers again, send several pages while on the phone with them, and 2 out of 3 never showed up in their server....they have assured me that the email address and or ip is not on a blacklist or being caught by the spam filter. I did read an earlier post about enabling 2 step verfication and create an application specific password...that has been done, and has had no effect on the issue. I have been in contact with gmail techs, and sent several pages with them on the phone and they showed all the transactions going through their server as it should with no issues. As of this date, the issue with us cellular customers remain, and have started to have a delay of between 2-10 minutes on other carriers as well. Any ideas on this? Where do i need to go next?

I'm having the the same problem with US Cellular and gmail. I don't have any customers that aren't US Cellular so I can't speak about delay time for different carriers. I switched to a paid email account instead of using gmail and it seems to be working better. But just switched to the new account less than a week ago.
I did not talk to US Cellular or gmail about my issues.

Update on my issue. After doing some very tedious testing and research and speaking with several different email providers, here is what I have discovered. For my installation of TTD I run for 3 different departments. 2 departments are on the same tones. The 2 departments that are on the same tone has a total of about 50 recipients it gets sent to. The other department has about 25 recipients. Therefore if we have a busy day, then it would be very easy to have 200 + messages going out for that day. Most email providers now have enacted stricter spam protection on their servers. Part of the new spam filtering process is that they can set the number of allowed incoming messages at a time from a single email address. If the amount that you send at a given time exceeds the limit they have set, then their server sees that message as possible spam and their server will drop that email address into a greylist. When the email address is dumped into the greylist, then it will only allow a certain number of emails to go out at one time, while putting the others in the send que to be delivered later. That would explain why some messages get to phones as it should and others are delayed. I have even checked into godaddy, and they only allow 30 emails per minute.....as an example. Solution for this issue, If your ISP will allow you to, and they do not block port 25 then use your own email server...smartermail is what I am using now, and its free for 1 domain and 10 email accounts. Next solution, check into a mail relay service. A lot of times a mail relay service will allow several hundred emails to go out at once without any delays. SO, for those that are experiencing delayed pages at times, this could be a possible reason of why and some possible resolutions.

Has anyone had any luck getting TTD to work in Canada with Bell Mobility? I have tried @txt.bell.ca, @txt.bellmobility.ca and @mms.bell.ca and @mms.bellmobility.ca all with no luck.

is Bell somehow blocking incoming media files?

Would love to hear from someone who has this working on Bell, one of the, if not the biggest cell carrier in Canada

I am also having issues with Bell MMS... I have about 10 guys on Telus and works great the other 13 on Bell does not work.. I have contacted bell support many times and apparently I am the only person who ever asked them about Bell MMS....

I know there is a way however I am thinking they are trying to save data... Kind of sad especially for departments wanting to use this service for emergency response.

Would love to get this figured out. I suspect it is something that Bell just needs to allow or turn on or its an address we are unfamiliar with?

I am assuming there is an address that must be well hidden. Or was hoping there would be some kind of ''second party'' software to be able to get an MMS message to Bell phones somehow.

Surprises me that such a huge company does not offer a service such as that,

I never send any attachments to the email to SMS gateway. Just the straight text and they can get the recording via email.

I had this same problem a few months back. I have TTD setup for our entire county. 33 different tone sets, around 50 users. Mail relay services do allow you to send out hundreds of emails per minute, but the two that I tried had some serious delays, in some cases 24 hrs+. I finally stumbled on Google Apps or as it is call now G Suite. Cost is somewhere around $12 to register a domain and email addresses at $5 per month each. They email you a monthly report with how many emails you sent, last month for me was 1,665 (each email has 10 -30 recipients) and never a complaint from anyone about not receiving an alert or any delays.

Moved Two Tone to new computer

I have just moved my Two Tone Detect to a new computer and am having an issue with the sound card not being saved when the computer re-starts.

If I have a power failure or shut down the computer, when the computer restarts, it sometimes does not return the correct sound card. Right now it says my sound card #'s in the config file are 5 - In and 6 - out. The output is "Microsoft Sounder Mapper" which has always been that way. I do not have 5 sound cards, just 2. When I originally had it working it choose #4 when I exited the program with the exit tab. I have exited via the exit tab numerous times and restarted the program.

I am running two instances of the program, one for the left side of my sound card and the other for the right. One side is a scanner. and the other is a single channel receiver.

Once I start the computer back up it takes a few times before the sound will work once I change the input device to to to the correct sound card. I have had this working on the old computer just fine and reboots never caused this problem.

Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

John.

VZW EMAG

Does anyone know if you can use Verizons emag messaging service with TTD? I'm in the process of getting the account setup, as this is a VZW only service that goes out instantly. (Same special messaging like IAR)

Also I am still fighting a falsing issue when a stack of pages go off in the county. Its weird that TTD is picking it up but the pager is not. I have the Atonelength = 1.6 and Btonelength = 2.0. I don't think I can go any higher can I?

Is it possible to have TTD only listen on one audio channel? ( right or left) My radio has the paging channel on one speaker( right) and the rest of the channels on (left). I'd like to keep the other signals on the other channels for streaming via darkice. I'm running TwoToneDetect68Pi.pyc on a Pi.

is audio_channel in config.cfg the place to set that?

Thanks,

Brian

I think you are on the right track. That feature was added in version 65. Here is the release note:

Version 65

Enhancements to signal processing
Left/Right/Mono selection in Config Menu

If you have a 1.6 second A tone, then it sounds like your tone timing may not be the standard 1/3 second for Quick Call 2 pages. What is the length of your A and B tones that get sent over the air?
