As of this date, the issue with us cellular customers remain, and have started to have a delay of between 2-10 minutes on other carriers as well. Any ideas on this? Where do i need to go next?
Steve,
I have TTD setup just for my own personal fun use through VZW. I have TTD setup to email me the second the tones are detected and I'll get an email before the tones finish coming over the air -- so I know my SMTP layer is perfect and not a bottleneck.
However, I have been seeing anywhere from 6-20minute delays on the audio file delivery via MMS. I am starting to suspect that the queuing mechanism used by the SMS infrastructure gets backed up because of the attachments. This is a total guess on my part based on the fact that other MMS texts to the same phone arrive timely.
The easiest solution to test this theory is to send two alerts. The first one goes out as a text message indicating an event is toning out, the second one is an email of that file. Instead of playing it out of their text messages they can open their email on their phone and it's attached.
If text message delivery is critical then you could use the scripting functionality of TTD to push the audio file up to a web server, and text the recipients a web link to that file that they can click on. If my theory that the attachment is causing these delays has any merit this would probably be a viable work around.
