Firefox10 - very interesting read - thanks for taking the time to explain everything to us. I am learning lots.
Yup - ever since the Sgt Major retired from the USSS Desk in Boston it is very quiet on Baker, Charlie, Mike etcI have both the UHF and VHF in my Boston Bank, and maybe once a month there is chatter in the clear
Does HAMMER or any of the other specialty units that support Protective Ops have their own frequency?USSS PPD (Only, NOT Field Agents) and not Inter-Operability with other agencies, runs strictly VHF(E) and nothing else. Whether CONUS or Abroad. I have trained and rode with the USSS "Hammer Team" on numerous presidential visits at MIA.
I caught a glimpse of an APX 8500 in a Suburban on a DPD detail, and the Zone was “Protection.” I assume they’ve got all their VHF Simplex Protective Ops channels (Oscar, Mike, Baker, Pap, Tango, CNOS 1-3 etc) in this 16-channel zone.I have no idea what regions are to the USSS They have their own channels (repeater and simplex) Mostly all use VHF simplex thats why scanners very seldom pic them up, now with 8500's they are encrypted while the 5000's some were and some weren't which caused problems.
Yes. VHF(E) Simplex 1 Watt for Suit to Suit, Man to Man. HAMMER Team Leader maintains 2 Freqs with the other to PPD Assignment C/P.Does HAMMER or any of the other specialty units that support Protective Ops have their own frequency?
Do you know what freq that is? Poss 167.0375 or 162.6875?Yes. VHF(E) Simplex 1 Watt for Suit to Suit, Man to Man.
It doesn't matter they are ALL "E". Encrypted. You can NOT receive with anything.Do you know what freq that is? Poss 167.0375 or 162.6875?
Wow.The USSS has UHF channels. On the POTUS LIMOS there are VHF antennas, but on the Suburbans he has is 2 VHF and 2 UHF hockey pucks. Overseas they use UHF mainly and bring "on board" repeaters.

All alphabet agencies have their basic 10-12 channels which are in the 8500's, dependant on the region some of course have more. (DC has a slew) but the basic are in zones in the 8000's. Another thing to remember is they have OTAR and OTAP.
Also, the 6 door suburban always follows the motorcade for POTUS or any major dignitaries. That "radio shop on wheels" has the ability to patch anything into anything (haha) it has 8 8500s, 5 7500's, and 5 6500's just for starters not to mention the sat radios for WHCA to it and if needed patch to POTUS over VHF. It also has the "base" for the L band (sat) radios. There are about 20 portables in that vehicle and 8 in another suburban. These are the size of a Unication receiver. They are sat radios for over seas if channels are compromised due to different frequency allocations from country to country, as a last resort.
Review the Project 25 federal radio plan That sets all the UHF/VHF channels for the 25 major cities and their networks which I talked of in my first post. Each one of those is in every 8500 and 8850. (boston has those channels and bapern)
Hope I am not boring everyone or too longwinded.
Perhaps he is making a list, and not necessarily trying to monitor. It doesn't matter they are ALL "E". Encrypted. You can NOT receive with anything.
Sorry, my nominclature, the radios are in the base setup (meaning a rack type charger & holder) in the comms unit. Also 3-4 in every USSS vehicle in the POTUS or VPOTUS motorcade. In counter assault suburban, they always have 4 thrown in the cup holders. I have a pic somewhere I'll send. They are small radios like the unication pagers. Don't need much power to go direct to Sats which are always overhead on POTUS.Wow.
They really let you on the inside, apparently.
I have a question. You say the comms vehicle has the base for the L band portables. I was under the impression they talked direct to satellite. Are they just talking to the base in the comms truck, then out from there?
Are these Iridium PTT radios? Sure would like a picture and nomenclature.Sorry, my nominclature, the radios are in the base setup (meaning a rack type charger & holder) in the comms unit. Curious, how does this relate to the USSS radios?.My local FD just changed to APX8000s. The ugly yellow ones.
If he drops something his pants might need a patch more than his radio 😂Hmm, that SS boy needs to loose some weight and keep his plinker from showing.
