• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

From the Powerwerx site, here's the difference:

KG-UV6D Model

The newest model to the Wouxun lineup features the optional 1700 mAh Li-ion battery pack standard (a $25 value) and additional features including:

•2.5 step for FCC 2013 narrowband compliance New!
•200 memory channels
•Standard SMA antenna connector
•RPT: Additional programmable multifunctional key. Can change shift direction or reverse frequency, or activate fm radio, lamp, stopwatch or alarm.
•Channel selector knob works when the keyboard is locked
•The single/dual band key can be software programmed on/off

I think the 3 already included the 1700 mah battery. Added 2.5 khz steps and one button, plus some software programable stuff. Hardly seems worth an additional $65. What am I missing?

I bought one of these out of pure curiosity. Can't beat the price. But in the long run....its a hundred dollar radio if that and not anything else. It performs like a hundred dollar radio too. It does have better audio out of the speaker than a $500.00 Uniden 396XT, I'll give it that.

I like the inclusion of the 2.5K tunning steps.

It looks as if they're all dealer ads:

1. Power Werx
2. cheapham.com
3. AES
4. Austin Amateur Radio Supply
5. Radio City Inc.
6. Associated Radio
7. Universal Radio Inc.
8. Lentini Communications, Inc.

(4-8 have a combined single page ad.)

Radio Oaisis sells a limited edition Wouxun dual bander that comes with EVERY available accessory and a spare battery, everything tucked into one box. Not sure what it sells for.

Nothing in my opinion. It seems that Wouxun changed to a larger uprocessor in the rig and changed the firmware. Since they were selling the "old" model like hotcakes, they upped the price to what they thought the market would bear. For amateur use, IMHO, there is nothing added that would cause me to spend $65 more. Now IF it would be used in the Part 90 service, AND I needed to program a channel that I couldn't program in the older model, then yes it would be worth it.

Personally, I think that they shouldn't have upped the price that much - it is now almost the same price as a Yaesu FT-60. I think that they won't sell as many at the new price as they did with the old model. It wouldn't surprise me to see the price come down on the new ones $25 or $30 this year.

The UV6D actually costs more than the FT-60 now. Yaesu has dropped to price on them to around $160 shipped. (Most likely to compete with the Wouxun radios.)

I agree, for Amateur Radio use, it doesn't offer any benefits over the older models. Unless someone really needs more memories, 2.5 Khz steps, and a button to control repeater shifts, it's just overpriced. The whole reason everyone has been jumping all over the Wouxun radios is their price, but with the UV6D it looks like they're pricing themselves out of the market. Especially since we continue to see new dual-band radios from Chinese companies show up on ebay for around the $100 mark.
