NYC's new UHF systems

A lot of testing of the conventional and trunk parts of this UHF system. Felix and the boys are maning the remote sites and 11 Metro Tech's 4th & 5th floors. Testing all the componets with Moto and FDNY people on site. Several of the conventional channels were IDed during voting system tests in S. I. The use of the term "MRD" has me stumped, any idears out there?

Depends on what you mean by "real soon." Usually the radio shop will get the base sites functioning properly, then install mobile radios. Installation for an agency the size of FDNY will take a long time.

A very active day of testing. Three field teams calling in with grid and boro locators. "Dispatch" is responding on both analog TG-6176 and digital TG-48128. 48068 and 48080 are the other active digital TGs. Analog TGs are active in the 6100s. There has been no digital activity on the conventional frequencies. Start saving your $ for that new digital scanner this Christmas, you'll need it!

My mistake. Its "EMD" that was used to ID some of the channels. Any way testing seems to follow a pattern. "Team 2" calls in with a grid location on an analog freq for a 5x5, after they are acknowledged, they switch to an analog trunk channel and then a digital one [48128] to give the grid a passing grade. They then move on to another grid. There appear to be 3 ground teams and a marine unit ["boat team"].

I fully expect to find a complete run down of the system [both conventional and trunk] on the n2nov.net site in short order.

I'm in lower Manhattan and am picking up this system on my RS Pro-106. The analog TGs are coming in very well. However, the digital TG (48128) is coming in uncoded--just the digital noise one would hear on a non-digital scanner. In the settings, I have the system type as "MOT VHF/UHF." Should I be using the P25 Auto setting instead? All conventional P25 signals are being read well on my radio.
