Is the Augusta area on phase 1 or phase 2 of p25? I want to get the right scanner.

Augusta is p25 conventional. State Police is on a phase 1 P25 system
There is also a conventional analog channel for Augusta (capital police) if I remember correctly.

Would a Home Patrol 1 scanner work?
Conventional P25 is in short, a non-trunked(if you don't know what trunking is, read about it here: Trunked radio system - Wikipedia) P25(APCO-25 or Project 25, you can read more about P25 here: Project 25 - Wikipedia), which is a digital mode commonly used among law enforcement.
Do you want to just scan Augusta? Or do you also want to scan Maine State Police?

The home patrol 1 will work with the Augusta channels.
But, with the looks of the price of them. I would look at something newer, such as the Uniden-BCD996P2.
Keep in mind the home patrol was discontinued in 2010.

Yeah I don't need to know what public works isn't doing.
Id recommend a BCD996P2, WS1065, WS1040, BCD325P2, BCD436HP, BCD536HP
The BCD996P2 sure is a bang for your buck. It is loaded with features and has a clean interface and good quality speakers.
