I’ve been curious about this for awhile, but it reminded me when listening to Russell Garuti dispatching the train accident on the TV clips.

Why does Newington have like 7 or 8 tones if there are only 4 stations? Any time there is a call for 2 stations, 3 tones go off. All I can think of possibly is for the FMO or officers, but what else. As far as I know Newington doesn’t use station sirens, however I walked out of Stew Leonard’s one day and I sure got someone’s siren. Sounded like it was coming from the west.

I grew up listening to Newington in the late 60's.

I haven't lived there since 1980. Police Fire and Ambulance used to all be on 156.00.

Some pagers are two-tones each and they may have separate tones for the various officers. They had sirens for all four companies at the time but they may not use them for every call or all times-of-day.

You'll have to wait for a knowledgeable local to chime in.

Likely because no one knows how to configure group or all call pages...

I went to NHS with the Fire Chief and used to hang out at the PD. They even let me answer the phones at the time. (y)

If you pay attention to the tones, you'll most likely figure out which is for which Fire Company. I knew them by heart!

I don't know about the tones. Maybe there is a tone for each Engine, Ladder and Rescue not just each station. The sirens were discontinued a long time ago. What you heard was Berlin who still uses their sirens.

Ones probably an all call that activates pagers and sirens
The rest correspond to a specific company and their station alerting or specific pagers

I remember those days of hearing 551,552 and evening tone tests
550 and 551.

552 was dispatched out only a handful of times a year, and it was a combination page. It was not included in the tone tests.

...and it was on it's own frequency, forgot that part.
