• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I have a laird cb27 & laird hood lip mount, I’ll be installing them on 2015 infinity qx60. This will be a compromise install, it will be our family’s main city & parking garage vehicle.
Curious to see what you end up with on this.

We have seen the Laird CW27 slightly outperform the Larsen NMO27 and have discussed the Chinese connection to Larsen and some reported failures with late model Larsen antennas. When is someone going to come up with a President Colorado 800WB antenna to test? Its supposed to cover 21 to 30MHz without tuning and its got a 54" whip. It could be the new replacement for the out of production Laird CW27 but we won't know until someone blows $120 on the Colorado. Anyone?

The two things that hold me back.
1) The "Fiber/Graphite whip. Is that a substrate for a copper wire or is it a long resistor?
2) The SO239 connector. Can I "NMO" it without a hassle?

I've never seen a graphite or resistive whip and that could broaden the BW at the expense of loss. It would also heat up depending on the loss and I would be surprised if the whip does not have a low resistance conductive wire inside. There are low profile NMO to SO239 adapters that should work fine.

So, are ya gonna buy one for me to test?

I found two similar but different low profile adapters on fleabay. One is a no name and the other is a Larsen. Mine has slight differences to both and I don't remember where I got it.

PRESIDENT Colorado 800
21-30 MHz, 54” NMO Antenna

Code: CYBER25

$119.95 today

“The Colorado 800 WB is a wide band mobile antenna specifically designed to give maximum performance in the CB, 10 meter, and 12 meter bands.

These antennas are very broad-banded but still have an SWR ≤ 2. The fiber/graphite whip is not meant to be cut or trimmed. Higher than normal SWR may indicate problems with coax, ground plane, or installation.

Rated at 140 watts PeP and measures in at only 4.5 feet. Requires a UHF SO-239 style antenna mount (not included).”

Walcott radio in Indiana is one, there might be more.

Walcott Radio is across IH80 from IOWA 80, the world’s largest truckstop in Walcott, IA.

Great retail selection on hand.
Website doesn’t adequately convey this.

You ain’t lived until . . . .

I had the watchband and a similar tie-tac.
Wish I could still grow the hair.

I was that guy 48yrs ago. Did counter sales, CB, car stereo, commercial radio, installs and repairs. Also opened and stocked a satellite store 50mi away and drove there and managed it every day for 6mo. Sunshine Radio, Colorado Springs and Pueblo, CO from about 1976 to 1981.

Never wore a tie, don't think I owned one back then.
