Hi All,
I am wondering how long the reported "problem" with updates is going to take. No further word from Wendy?

HI guys -
Sorry for the delayed response. It has been a bit busy around here because of the holidays.
I apologize for any inconvenience. We have been working on a new (updated) way to provide these updates and apparently it inadvertently caused us to not process the last couple of updates. Please be patient with us as we flush out the issue and get them back up and running.

Hey @WhistlerWendy any update? It's now been a month since the last update!!!!!

Hi All,

I called Whistler Scanner Support (1-866-923-8719) at 10:00 EST this morning. After being on hold for 15 minutes "Brian" answered the phone at Whistler. I inquired as to why we have not seen a frequency library update since version 656 which was released on 11-30-2019. He told me that he was aware of the issue and would have to discuss it further with "his boss." I pressed for a time factor for the resolution of this issue and he told me that there was no estimate at this time as to when the frequency library update feature would be resolved. There you have it "from the horse's mouth" as of 12-30-2019.

I've held off on making a comment on this thread, but.......... After fifteen days, accept what Whistler is telling you.
You all are acting like you need your "fix" like an addict.

What makes these updates so important?? I own two scanners that have SD cards, and haven't updated the database on one for over a year. The other gets updated maybe once every six months. If I need to add something, I open the software and do it manually.

With the few threads I've seen where updates have made it difficult to monitor their favorite systems. Where is the logic in that??

Just wondering.

Glad you brought this up. A lot of changes happened to the systems here over the last couple of months with several agencies and towns moving to the VIPER system or changing frequencies. With the exception of the county VFD, EMS and airport my scanner was getting rather quite. So, one afternoon is sat down with my laptop, opened the Whistler software & the RadioReference database and updated the frequencies and systems. It wasn’t hard to do and didn’t take that much time (did a lot of cut & paste). Rather reminded of the ‘good old days’ before downloads and automatic updates, although I was glad to be able to use the computer keyboard and not have to punch in all that on the keypad of the scanner!. And I think I understand the new systems better than I would if I had just downloaded the update.

The automatic updates are nice and I hope they are back soon but I can get by just fine until they are.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Yep, having the auto update feature fubar does make people learn how to do things somewhat manually.
This is usually a good thing. I've not used the RRDB to make a single change in any of my Uniden models in ages. I prefer to customize the alpha tags for my liking.
I still update their DB each week just in case I can't confirm something for some reason but that would be very rare.

On the other hand, I know a couple over the road truck drivers that rely upon the weekly updates to stay up to date.
Neither of these guys have the time or inclination to mess with anything other than letting the software do its thing so for users like this, the weekly updates are very welcome as they have no way (time) to look at everything that's been updated across the country each week and make those changes manually.

For myself, the weekly updates are nice but not really important but for other types of users, (think long haul OTR truck drivers), the weekly updates can be a necessity especially if they rely upon the scanner to help them do their jobs.

Goes to show manual is still available, thanks sld. I for one (and many more) bought the RS 668 then later paid to upgrade to the WS1080. Those of us who rely on the RR database update must have them since it was a huge consideration to its purchase!

!st, it isn't 15 days. Second, if this can't be or won't be fixed/updated, they sold a lot of radios fraudulently (not to mention all those updated 668's and such). Get off your soapbox and realize many have no need to or reason to 'manually' program, it wasn't the main reason I bought the 668 and paid for the legal upgraded WS1080. This database update isn't the only concern. It happened after a couple more strange things like a huge sale of their flagships.

Knowing how corporate America works, I am concerned I will have to learn to 'program' this thing in the near future. It seems to me that many others are also concerned. Just because it doesn't concern you, doesn't mean there isn't a problem. We don't need a 'fix', we need Whistler and RR to get the job done. Not rolling out something that doesn't work, then leaving a lot of us to (I suppose seeing as I don't have my 'fix') make crapola up?

Leave RR out of this. RR is doing their job and very well I might add.
The lack of the weekly Whistler updates is a Whistler problem and theirs alone.

If you buy a McDonald's cheeseburger, and the cheese is moldy...are you going to blame McDonald's, or their cheese vendor?

Your analogy makes no sense. The RR database is fully functional, and RR has absolutely nothing to do with how Whistler or Uniden conduct their business, including when or how they make use of the RRDB for their own purposes and to provide updates to their customers.

This is 100% a Whistler issue, 0% RR. Period.

It all depends on whom was responsible for letting the cheese become moldy in the first place.

And not that it matters but Uniden's weekly updates did not come out today like normal.

If not for this thread, I wouldn't even know there haven't been Whistler database updates. I can't remember the last time I updated the database in my Whistler scanners. I usually do everything manually.

...says the fry cook at McDonald's, who is too close to the company.

From a customer point of view, people pay for a premium subscription to get their updates, period. How long can you pass the buck to Whistler if, say, 6 months go by without updates? What would you tell your customers who bought a TRX-1 and a subscription? Hey, not our fault?

Premium subscriptions have absolutely NOTHING to do with Whistler EZScan or Uniden Sentinel.

As Kevin said, one thing has nothing to do with the other. Uniden is still able to provide weekly updates from the RRDB, so that right there ends the argument that this is any sort of RR issue. Don't be so quick to question my objectivity.

RR has nothing to do with this. Leave them out of this. Read the fine print before you throw RR under the bus with your nonsense.

Whistler might have just stopped making updates just like they don't make scanners anymore.
