• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I had a batch of CP100ds VHF all identical to program for a customer...got a call explaining a weird behavior where a (single) radio can transmit then receive if end of transmission was at most 4 seconds ago. If 5 seconds, the radio will not show any sign of activity.

I went to the customer and proved it for my self. Then, I cloned a known good radio into problem HT. Same behavior.

Some facts: analog with DPL, but brought it back to the shop and went csq for test. No change. The test transmitting radio was still tx'ing dpl, but i dont think that matters. I was going to strip dpl from tx, but got distracted ran out of time.

Also, if channel is changed, then changed back to original, the "timer" resets.

Not sure how long it has been acting up, but I programmed the batch first part of November.

A bit of an update. Tripping TOT gives it a whopping 1 min before going to hibernate.

I put an auto scan with a few channels, and that seems to keep it awake. Stop gap for sure.

Strange for sure. That behavior smacks of Selective Call operation. Not sure if a CP100D can even do that on analog. Maybe you're down to a firmware refresh?

Reviving topic.

We sent two radios back. After we got them back, one worked as expected, the other had same problem.

Now, after realizing this is a problem, I have been testing the new-in-box spares on default 403MHz ch1. Have found at least two nib funky CP100ds.

Moto is no help on this at all. They said they replaced main board on both...

Update...for grins, I turned off Rx battery saver in General, General Settings. It cured it. I then changed it back to Rx battery save on, and it made it absolutely deaf at 5 seconds after last activity.

So, does anyone know how the battery saver function works?

Typically it functions by turning off the front end and, audio PA, etc for periods then "waking" back up to check for activity. It sounds like it's not "waking" back up. Leave it disabled. It's about as useful a feature as the auto stop/start on modern vehicles.

Ya, unchecked and works great.

I also confirmed that using a transmit radio that has Preamble enabled will not wake up the problem child.
