I'm hearing it on 162.375 today too, and nothing but static on the regular Finger Lakes Wx channel 162.500.
I am hearing a NWR station now on 162.375 just occasionally breaking the squelch and mostly unreadable. Also getting covered every time Batavia VA DMR data keys up. It likely is Ithaca since I normally am out of range on 162.500. Any time there is any ducting Coudersport PA covers 162.500 here so I never hear Ithaca.

Actually I just copied it but it has so much QSB (fading in and out)
like there one second then completely gone, ..I find it very odd?

My reception here seemed to be very unstable ducting. Signal is gone here since sunset but it could build up toward down your way since an inversion often forms with night time cooling if it is clear night.

Well with all the looking up I did and I,m sure everyone here knows
this but NOAA is 162.400 - 162.550 so not sure what is going on but?
if it is like HF they always show up off freq. now and then ..as of
typing this I have them now on there...on 375.. ...Marcy

I think it is very possible the NOAA transmitters could revert to 162.375 on a failure. And, I think we have established you are hearing WXN59 Ithaca that should be on 162.500. @acj76 has confirmed when 162.500 in Ithaca is silent it is heard on 162.375.

No the Armstrong Transmitters are "Frequency Agile", meaning the exciter frequency can be changed relatively easy. I suspect the transmitter in question is somehow reverting to "162.375" which is either the factory default frequency in the exciter or some other odd glitch. That is if this site is using an Armstrong. (I know the FMs from Armstrong can be done via a menu on the front panel.)
The antenna being designed for NOAA "162.4000 - 162.5500" is broad enough, 162.375 would transmit fine through it.

Does anyone know if this is a common occurrence with this transmitter? I was in Ithaca a couple of weeks ago and noticed that it was again transmitting on 162.375. After a few days, it reverted back to its regular frequency.

It is apparently a common failure condition with the NOAA transmitters. While it is not unique to Ithaca it seems to happen frequently there.

I just got back from Ithaca yesterday. It seems that the NOAA transmitter was back to its assigned frequency and nothing was being transmitted on 162.375. Interestingly, I had never encountered this issue anywhere before. I live in south Florida and under normal conditions , I’m within range of 3 sites. I’ll pay closer attention now that I’m aware of this issue.

It seems like this is a possible failure condition for NOAA transmitters so it could be interesting to monitor the frequency to see what signals turn up from time to time. A rare chance to hear distant stations that normally are covered by nearby co-channel stations.

Our (Boston) NWS has been on/off for the past two weeks.
Nothing posted on the NWS Pages, so I just openned a ticket.

When it was down, nothing NWS releated was found on any other VHF Federal channel.

I listen to Boston and Worcester and haven't received the test message from either station for a few weeks now.

(18 JUN 2024) NOAA weather Baltimore KEC83 (normally on 162.400) is back on 162.375 as it has done at times in the past. This frees up 162.400 and NOAA weather Atlantic City WHB38 is being heard there at present in Fredericksburg, VA.
